Help please: Low Cal Foods that make you feel full....

So lets say you only have 400 calories left for the day and no time for exercise...
You want to eat something healthy - but also something that is not going to keep you feeling starving all evening.
For example - eating a salad never really makes me feel full.
Whereas - I have found that having a bowl of shrimp wonton soup is really good - as it makes me feel "full" and is only 150 calories.
Any more suggestions anyone for low cal food that makes you feel full ??
Would love to get some help on this one......

What are you putting in your salads that they don't fill you up? I usually have a salad for lunch and honestly sometimes I can barely finish it. I am definitely full.
That said.
~Oatmeal fills me up. I like to add fresh blueberries to it.
~Eggs also fill me.
~a cup of watermelon fills me0 -
Lean protein is key for me. I can go to town on a high-carb meal but once protein comes into the picture I fill up quick.
Add some tuna or chicken to a salad (skip high-cal toppings like dressings, cheeses, croutons, nuts, bacon bits)
Broth based soups
Hot tea (not really food, but it takes up volume)
Anything bland. If something isn't flavorful and delicious, you'll be less inclined to eat it. Whenever I go out to eat Chinese food I order steamed veggies and brown rice. I eat maybe a quarter cup of each and lose interest.0 -
1% low fat cottage cheese...high in protein and low in carbs/fat...high in sodium though
protein bar (I like MetRx and PowerBar Protein plus)
A shrimp ring (even with the cocktail sauce...it is low cal...packs a ton of protein)
Almonds
Green tea tends to soften my appetite and tastes awesome!0 -
Thanks everyone - very helpful....0

I know you say salads don't fill you up, but the salad I had today was the most filling I've had ever! I used 2 cups of chopped kale, a few cherry tomatoes, an once of peapods, a Morningstar Farms soy sausage crumbled up, and honey of all things! It was only 288 calories!
I also like to make snacks by putting things on crackers like PB, tuna, hummus, or cream cheese.0 -
Protein like hard boiled eggs, tuna or turkey jerky. The worst is "healthy" bars that are really nothing but carbs and sugar, cereal...
A lot of people say oatmeal. Doesn't work for me.0 -
One of my favorite low cal meals that is really filling is tofu stir fry. I use about 1/3 package of tofu, 1-1 1/2 cups of broccoli and another 1/2 to 1 cup of other veggies like sliced peppers, onions, mushrooms, snowpeas. I make a sauce using 1 Tbsp peanut butter, 1 Tbsp ketchup, 1.5 Tbsp soy sauce, 1 Tbsp. rice vinegar, and 1 Tbsp. sweet chili sauce. According to my calculations it ends up between 300 and 400 calories and is super filling and tastes amazing. You could probably even cut back with the sauce (maybe try halving everything) as that is where most of the calories are. The combo of fiber from the veggies, protein from the tofu, and fat (and protein) from the peanut butter keeps me full for hours and is satisfying because it can be eaten slowly allowing you to fill up more quickly. You could also try this with a super lean meat like shrimp or chicken instead of the tofu and whatever sauce fits your tastes/wants, like teriyaki.
In general I would focus on adding veggies to any meal (put them in a pasta sauce, in an egg scramble, etc.) to keep calories down but be able to eat more volume.
Sorry for the long message, but I hope that gives you some ideas.0 -
I eat English muffins for breakfast and they fill me up. I use the high fiber light Thomas' and add an egg, sliced turkey and 1/2 of a slice of cheese. High fiber and high protein. And it tastes good. You can see it in my diary on Sunday morning.0

Wholegrain bread, yogurt and chicken breasts.0

get a sachet of miso soup, about 30 cals, add beansprouts, chinese lettuce or pack choi, egg tofu, mushrooms, spring onion & away you go. total about 150 cals & it will fill you up. drop an egg in it whilst it's boiling to make drop egg soup & that will make it even more filling.
other things that fill up are sliced chicken breast. if you are in UK tescos & sainsbury do good ones, chicken tikka, chinese chicken & bbq, half a pack is around 120 cals & if you add it to salad then it will make it a very filling meal.
snack on popcorn, salt or plain then add a bit of sugar if you want to. i eat loads of popcorn every day now & it takes the edge of the "just want to eat for the sake of it" feeling.0 -
Bump so I can read more suggestions...
Chicken Breast
Brussels Sprouts
Any green leafy veggies, really
giant bowl of veggies0 -
I literally save a few calories so I can have popcorn. Air popped, of course, with no butter. Just white vinnegar and a pinch of salt. So good and so few calories for a snack that practically comes in a bucket.0

bump all these great suggestions
roasted eggplant, red peppers, portobello mushroms, and thick onion slices. drizzle with a bit of oil and some seasoning and pop it in the oven for 10-15 min. that and a baked sweet potato is pretty filling- and all veggies.0
