Exercise record

Hi, I'm new to MFP and I like the way it integrates diet and exercise. However, I am struggling with the exercise record. I work out at the gym with a trainer twice a week. I am trying to record my workout, which varies from week to week. I don't want to enter each exercise--I just want a general calorie count for a 45 minute strength training workout. Is this possible? If so, how do I record it? thanks for you advice!

:flowerforyou: Welcome. I haven't gotten to weight lifting or working with a trainer, can't help you there but welcome anyway.

I have the same issue. I just count it as cardio right now.

There is a cardio option called strength training/weight lifting.

there is a listing in the cardio section for strength training. It gives an estimate of calories burned based on the minutes you enter.

I also find the exercise calculator a bit confusing. I do a boot camp class for one hour every day... and am totally clueless as to how to figure out the calories...

I haven't done a boot camp but the ones I've seen seem to be circuit training based, aren't they?

There is an option to enter "strength training" under the cardio exercise. It will allow you to put in the time and give you the calories. It seems a really low number to me, meaning I think I burn more in a 30 minute routine than they do, but at least it gives something. Entering each individual exercise with weight and reps doesn't provide calories burned but it will give you a way to track your progress in terms of how much weight you're able to lift and reps do.

I also work with a trainer twice a week. I wear a HRM and just put it in under cardio and use the calories burned from the HRM. I created my own exercise "training with Jerry" that way I can track all my training with him.

I have a trainer once a week, but also do strength training once a week on my own. I don't record the cals burned during strength training. While I feel awesome afterwards, I know my heart rate doesn't go anywhere near high enough to be doing much so consider any cals burned during this time to be a bonus, and don't try to eat them back or record them.
