Is V8 actually good for you?

I just saw a commercial for it, and I was wondering to myself, 'does it actually give you all of your daily fruit and vegetable servings?' I'm guessing it's full of sugar..?

Just looked at the v8 splash today, because it was buy 1 get1 and the second ingredient is high fruitouse corn syrup, " sorry for the spelling" I put it back.0

Good Question but i see sodium and sugars and all that. I got a juicer and make it myself.. MMMMM and so yummy...0

I try to stay away from the V8 Splash stuff. I do believe it has quite a bit of sugar in it. I'm drinking the V8 low sodium veggie juice as I type this and it's really good. 70 cals, 15g carbs, 12g sugar. It could be worse, I guess.0

V8 splash is not really V8, in my eyes. It is a 'hip new V8' made to taste good and yes, has crappy ingredients in it.
The V8 original, however, seems ok in my book. ingredients as follows:
RECONSTITUTED VEGETABLE JUICE BLEND (WATER AND CONCENTRATED JUICES OF TOMATOES, CARROTS, CELERY, BEETS, PARSLEY, LETTUCE, WATERCRESS, SPINACH), CONTAINS LESS THAN 2% OF: SALT, VITAMIN C (ASCORBIC ACID), NATURAL FLAVORING, CITRIC ACID.
They add some salt, citric acid, vitamins, and flavors. That's a good food. Only 50 cals for 1cup. Though it is high in sodium (420mg in 1cup) so be wary of that.

v8 Splash is different than original V8.
However, that being said, it's choke full of sodium, but you can get low sodium versions. 1 - 5 oz serving is 1 serving of fruits and veggies - not a whole day and is 30 calories.

I love V8s - don't touch the V8 splash!0

I like V8, but as a general rule, the less processed something is, the better it is for you. It's still healthier to eat fresh produce, but if you're either going to do V8 or nothing, V8's the better choice.0

It is also high in potassium. I have to watch the potassium levels in foods.0

I try and stay away from all fruit and veggie drinks, they are loaded with sugars and salt.. If your going to drink them I would suggest buying a juicer and make them yourself. But even then to much fruit juice will lead to weight gain.
I try and drink water, to spice it up add lime or lemon.0 -
I've never checked out the V8 splash, but original V8 is very good for you. There is a good deal of sodium in the original so if you have problems with sodium or get a lot from other sources choose the low sodium (I think the low sodium tastes better anyway). It does not give you all the veggies you need in a day, but the 11.5 oz can contains 2 servings of vegetables (by USDA standards), and is a really great source of potassium and other vitamins/minerals. It has little sugar and is much more filling than fruit juice.0

I have done the V8 Low Sodium and the V8 Fusion cans which seem to be really good.0

8grams is sugar isn't really 'loaded' in my opinion, though I will agree the sodium content is high. V8 is not a fruit juice, it is a vegetable juice. If you are drinking the juices within your calorie goal, it will not by itself lead to weight gain.0 -

Ditto. I always have a V8 Low sodium in the fridge at work for a easy afternoon snack. It really gets me through the afternoon. But it needs to be rightously cold, or it doesn't appeal to me.0 -

It would really depend if it's V8 Classic "original " or not. V8 Splash contains High Fructose Corn Syrup and 18g of Sugar, V-Fusion tops that with 28g's of Sugar. V8 Original contains 620mg of sodium, that is 25% based on daily intake for only 8oz.
Some people are fine and can take high levels of sodium, but we have to remember sodium brings water weight. If you are trying to lose weight, water weight can add false lbs on the scale.
Here is some good reading on V8!!

I am so glad someone asked this question. I sometimes grab some V8 in between meals to help curb the hunger...I was really hoping to see everyone say....oh yea its so healthy for you!! lol I have a hard time keeping fruits and veggies in the house because I live pretty far from all the grocery stores..i travel almost 60 miles every two weeks and cant stock up because most of it will go bad before it gets eaten. I try to keep V8 and frozen smoothie mix for the days I'm out of fruits and veggies and its not time to take the trip to the store yet. I hate living so far out in the country because of this, but at the same time I LOVE it.... The air is so healthy and clean. Anything else I could be stocking up on that's healthy and keeps for a while? I do get a little sick of the same thing all the time, but I have to have something or I'll resort to the sugary snacks the kids and the hubby eat....lol I would really love to start a garden but I cant even keep a cactus plant alive..0

V8 is awesome with a couple fingers of vodka, a healthy dash of tabasco and a dill pickle spear.0

Water packed canned fruit or frozen pieces of fruit would last longer. Apples and oranges have more shelf life than berries. Frozen veggies without sauces. In the summer I used to take my ice chests with me to the grocery store since it was 50 miles away. I would also try to do all my errands at that point so it wasn't just one trip to the grocery store. Packed in the ice chests with ice my food would make it for several hours. I would even sometimes buy dry ice (although that is getting hard to find) and get ice cream home.0 -
