Hello, my name is brandy and I'm new to this site. I joined because i have struggled with my weight my whole life and now that im married i really want to be healthier for me and my husband. I have tried everything in the past that i thought would make me lose weight faster and easier but i know now that nothing works like eating right and exercising. I have a few problems that stops me from meeting my goal. One issue that i have is of course my love for food i love food so i finding it easier to slow down on it but a problem that i have thats harder for me to control is that I'm on birth control pills and because they make your body think its already pregnant it makes me crave food all the time so I'm constantly fighting with that. One of my major problems however is when i get upset or when I'm sad I eat bad and it's like i don't care anymore and the feeling is very hard to control. If you look at my diary you can see that this weekend i was feeling bad on sad or upset from the things i ate. It's a huge problem for me and i really don't know what to do. I find that when I'm sad or upset i stay in the bed until the afternoon and when i finally get up its late and I'm hungry so i pick up anything thats quick and easy. If anyone has this issue and can help me figure out a way to deal with it your advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Welcome to MFP! I read your post, and actaully, depending on what type of bc pills you are on, you really shouldn't gain any more than the initial 5 lbs that some people gain due to water weight. The depo shot is the only proven bc method to truly cause weight gain (according to my gyno). As far as eating when you feel bad, I think that most of us do this. I have overcome this to some degree, either by using self talk, and letting myself know that my body is my temple, or by posting things on my fridge. This is still something that I struggle with tho. Good luck!! You can do it!!0

Here's how I started getting into good habits.
I started tracking for a couple of weeks before I worried about losing.
(although seeing what I was eating I couldn't help but rein back a bit)
Then seeing where I could make small changes on things that weren't that important to me.
(Don't even think of taking chocolate out of my diet!!!)
--Reducing quantities where I won't notice it so much
--Swapping out things instead of eliminating them.
Then every couple of weeks I see where I can make another couple of small changes.
If you completely revamp your diet, it's way easy to revert to old ways in times of stress.
If you make a series of small changes, food still offers you some sense of comfort.
sort of a comfort continuum, and after a while the first small changes become habits and will seem comforting in themselves.
You don't have to be perfect you just have to do better.0
