I try not to do them, but occasionally I will. When you have an official "cheat day" - do you count the food? Do you weigh? If so, how much do you cheat?

I didn't mean to, but counted yesterday as a "cheat day". Ate about 4-5000 cal. Scale jumped 5 lbs this morning.

I don't really have complete cheat days. I just go over sometimes. I try not to go over too much though.

I always record my food. My bad habit was mindless eating. So even if I know I am going to go over, I try to capture everything I ate so that I stay somewhat in control. I also try to keep my weekly limit under, even if I go over for a day. That way it balances out.

4-5,000 calories is a bit much in my opinion for any cheat day..For me a cheat day is adding an extra 500-1000 calories to your diet..And if you are really going to binge on 4,000-5,000 calories, then you need to be in the gym burning off at least 1000 of those calories. A cheat day for me might be eating healthy and maybe having a whopper for lunch with fries and a diet coke (about 900 calories) then eating a very light dinner and still busting *kitten* in the gym. I'm not one to recommend eating that many calories and not excercising!. As for the 5 lb gain, most of that is water, and sodium..it should go down, but you'll probably need to really work out!

So far, I havent had a cheat day. And I dont think I will. I may have a cheat meal or something or go over on calories some but if I allow myself a cheat day, it will turn into a cheat week, then month, and so on lol

    I agree with this
  • I'm currently doing P90X and it consists of 6 workouts per week with one day off. On that day off I also take a break from counting calories. I don't necessarily gorge myself, but I do relax a bit about what I eat. In the past I've found I tend to lose weight more readily when I have a regular "off" day.

I don't call them that, but I do have cheat days, and I don't count them, but then I try not to beat myself up if that week I don't lose any weight or even gain a little.
The reason why I am trying to lose weight is because I want to be happier with myself, so I don't mind if it goes slowly, as long as there's a steady progression of losing weight. For example, if I go with my boyfriend to a fantastic restaurant to celebrate something special, I just want to celebrate, and eat yummy food, and drink nice wine, or beer, and not really count every single calorie, otherwise i will stop having fun. I don't feel guilty about it either. But then I try to hold it together for the rest of the week, maybe compensate for it. If it was worth it, don't feel guilty about it, just make up for it. And make them an exception, not a rule that you follow every week.
Because in fact you're not cheating your body. You're just giving yourself a day off, which has both positive and negative effects.

What's really shocking - is that in my "old life" - I would'a considered this a "lite day". I had a "healthy" lunch of 3 vegies, breaded chicken breast, water - then a dinner of appetizers and a beer, then desert of 2 candy bars. But those appetizers at Chilis kill me - and the "bottomless" chips & salsa - I will eat that forever - LOVE the salsa.

And we went home and watched a movie - I had driven for 9 hours ... so when I got home very unmotivated to go out and exercise.

After fasting most of the day - coming in significantly under my calorie goal (I know, I know) - and 2 hours of light cardio for almost 1000 Calories, and drinking water all day (glass out, glass in, glass out, glass in...) - The scale tonight after exercise was back to "normal" from 222 down to 216.8.
