Last time I put red on my hair it turned out that burgundy color of Sharon Osbourne's. I like Mrs O, but I don't want to look like her. Within a week, it faded to a lovely deep auburn shade that could be found in nature.

Give it time. Use normal shampoo, and condition the hell out of it. If you're still feeling horrible about it in two weeks, schedule an appointment to get it corrected.

You might want to try a little darker or brighter makeup than usual. When I wear my hair black-brown, I look best in red lips and black liquid eyeliner. Otherwise, I look washed out.

I have premature grey hair and i dye from the box all the time. it will lighten up after a few washes, if that helps. Dont go out and bleach it though that will just ruin your hair.

The allergy test is standard protocol for a cosmetology school. Some people have bad reaction to color, since you've been doing color at home already its probably not an issue for you. Worse case scenerio's include swelling, rash and a trip to the ER for a shot. The school will most likely do a good job but it will not be quick! They are slow and typically have to have an instructor check every thing they do along the way. Plan on being there for a good while and be patient and kind. Good Luck to you!
  • Hey everyone! Thanks for the continued input about this!

Just got back from the cosmetology school & they gave me the stuff to do the patch test. I also decided to buy some Paul Mitchell "The Detangler" conditioner while I was there as I've heard good things about it. :)

I'm going back to the cosmetology school tomorrow morning to get my corrective color done. They told me that I should plan on it taking about 2 hours.

    Hi

Do you have a shampoo and conditioner called "head and shoulders" If so buy this and use it for a week or two,it is a cleansing shampoo and will strip away a good bit of your colour. I am a hairdresser and work in a salon we will tell people to do this and come back in two weeks so we can take the ends of the colour out.

    Good Luck

P.s 100 dollars for your hair to be stripped is a good price. It is 250 euro in ireland which is 350 dollars!!!
