I'm interested in hearing from those of you who have lost your magic number (100lbs+???) and after had so much excess skin, you decided to get your tummy fixed up.

I"m 27, do not have children- but would like to. I also have bags of skin that hang off my tummy and upper inner thighs. And am seriously contemplating having it done now. I'm actually planning on going in for a consult next week.

How long did it take you to heal? Was it worth it? Any advice/comments you have for me?

Here is a link that I posted earlier today regarding this: http://www.bodyfatguide.com/LooseSkin.htm

I would not opt for surgery if there were any other way... that's just me ;)
  • Usually at that point, there's no other way :( **For some people**, not even time can fix it ...Good luck. My fiance has had one surgery so far and it looks like we'll need to get him a TT. He lost 130 lbs. Its been 2 yrs now almost and nothing else has worked..

I had a tummy tuck a year after my son was born because I knew I wasn't going to have anymore kids and I just wanted the excess skin gone. After the first three days, I was off the pain medication and my drain was removed at the end of the week. I was walking upright at about the third day as well. I took two weeks off work. I think recovery time depends on how you handle pain and what other procedures you get done. I only had the tummy tuck, no lipo. My friend got lipo and a tuck done a few months before me. Her recovery was a lot longer about 4 weeks.

Even though I had it done, it still didn't stop me from getting to my heaviest weight. I don't regret it having the procedure. I absolutely love my results. You can't workout for 6 weeks after you get it done, but ease back into the workouts as your tummy muscles will be extremely tight. I still cramp up a little when doing core workouts and my surgery was in 2007. The muscles are so tight. Since losing weight, my tummy is nice, flat and defined.

Good luck, If you need any more advice, feel free to contact me.

I'm not sure that I would want to have a tummy tuck unless I was done with kids. This is just my personal opinion. I've had 2 kids and my body was shaped so differently after each one. Good luck! You look great!

I haven't had one done, but I have looked into it, as I am considering it as an option. I would say DO NOT get one if you are planning to have kids afterward. None of us know how much weight we will gain during a pregnancy. So if you have the procedure done then get pregnant, you will end up stretching that skin back out. I gained 60 pounds while pregnant and have plenty of stretch marks and extra skin. I am considering this an option, but not until I am totally through having children. I don't want the possibility of losing my investment.

I agree with the previous post to wait until after you have children first then pay for the procedure during your consult tell doc your planning on having kids and see what he says also

i gained like 75 with my son so i had it done when he turned 4 years old because i had so much excess skin and my ab muscles were done for they also tighten your muscles when the do the tuck. I got a partial tuck so the cut dosent stretch all the way from hip to hip. Its the best thing ive ever done my tummy is one of the first places i see results when i start working out and now i can feel my abs when i work out :)

I would recommend it if you are done having children though that way you dont experience the same issue after another child. I dont advocate for surgery but for me it was great because having everything else start to firm up and then having a saggy tummy was just a no no for me.

    good luck

I would strongly encourage you to wait until after having children. My body changed drastically in different ways during each of my 4 pregnancies. It is such a great expense and a major surgery... that I would personally only have it done if I knew that the results I got would be my "final" result and there is no guarantee of that after you have a child or children! You look fab though!

This is a great post! This is one of my fears with losing 100+ pounds...I know how much extra skin I have with 60 pounds gone (From previous...i unfortunately gained it all back). When my mom lost about 55 pounds she hired a personal trainer and it really helped with her upper arm skin and stomach skin. I think that you should ask the doctor you have the consult with about things like babies and losing more weight. If you feel it's the right choice for you, then you should do it...You are the only one that can make that choice...

I will have a tummy tuck once I get to my goal weight again. I have had two large babies (both over 9 pounds) and had a previous weight loss of just over 120 pounds so my tummy leaves much to be desired. However I agree with what others have said.....NO WAY would I get it done without being done having kids first. If your body is prone to have excess skin from weight loss, surely pregnancy will do the same. I had a flat stomach until I had my first son at 21 and it never got back into shape. I am definitely for skin removal surgery, but I would highly consider having your children first if you plan to do so.
