So much exercise, but it's never enough

I binged again today.
I'm going to the gym now to spend 100 minutes on the adaptive motion trainer and 45 minutes strength training.
Even then, plus the walking I did between classes, I'll still need to burn close to 700 calories in order to break even (well... that's not true. I put some of the calories as 'spillover' for the next few days so that my burn goal wouldn't be quite as daunting... but it's still very daunting).

Ugh... is there any other exercise with a high calorie burn that I could do without losing motivation?

Before someone says "relax and move on" I will say that this has been going on for MONTHS and it's impossible to relax and move on when I'm constantly bloated to the point of pain. I just want to get rid of all this extra that I've put on. My gut is just impossibly swollen.

    bicycling but not on a machine at the gym, a single speed is best OR do some sort of boxing or MMA style training!

    i tend to burn the most calories walking uphills in the outdoors.

    If you can afford it, tae bo and turbofire workout videos burn a lot of calories. Or something with kickboxing.

    Honestly, the best thing to do is figure out what is causing the binges and try to fix that...the cycle of overexercising to fix binging is endless and awful, especially since you say this has been going on for months...
  • Hi It's great that you can/want to spend so long at the gym, however you are not making the most of the time and are working harder rather than smarter.
    To burn more calories (in less time) I would recommend doing some sort of circuits, either outdoors or in a gym using different machines for shorter periods. Rather than 100 mins on one machine and 30 mins of weights, why don't you try something like.
    Bike, rowing, adaptive motion, weights, squats, bike, rowing, adaptive, weights, squats. in shorter stints.

    This way you can remain at a high intensity for longer by trying to separate certain muscle groups, keeping your heart rate higher, as well as working all parts of your body.

    I recommend bicycling as well. This morning in 55 minutes I biked 14 miles at an average heart rate of 152 BPM over changing terrain and burned 967 Calories. It's not boring and I never have to wait for someone to get off the machine!

    i haven't looked at your diary. but could you be depriving youself too much?

    i eat well during the week, and plan a treat every weekend, so i have a little and controlled treat at the weekend without binging and going too crazy. it's worked for me, i've consistently lost weight every month for the last 5 months doing this. i don't feel like i'm going totally without because i still have something nice to eat if i go out to dinner, i still get a bit of chocolate every week, i can have a drink or 2 occasionally, so life is still normal. it's just not on school nights so to speak.

    totally agree. No other advice to give you. You will never be able to exercise enough to make up for binges, it takes hours and hours.
