Finally beginning what it takes to stay healthy

Hi everyone, my name is Shauna and I joined MFP around a month and a half ago. My girlfriend Leah who is also on MFP decided to change her habits and her life and I wanted to be there for her, mainly as support. It wasn't until recently that I decided that instead of just cheering along the sides, I wanted to join her. A lot of people scoff and disregard what I say when I talk about how I want to lose weight, because I am at my healthy weight. No I'm not overweight, but it doesn't mean I'm healthy. I have pretty bad eating habits and don't do much exercise at all; my freshman year in high school I did PE, sophomore year half a year of PE and half of health, junior year was pageantry (also called color guard) and my senior year I did nothing to maintain my weight. Now all I can say is I must have an amazing metabolism, because I do not treat my body right. I'm tired of hearing "shutup, you're skinny!" when I know inside that I am not healthy, and my metabolism will slow down sooner or later. When that happens, I want to have instilled healthy habits in myself in order to stay at my healthy weight.
I'm not doing MFP and counting calories to lose weight, I'm doing it to stay healthy. I want these habits before it's too late, and my diet and not exercising catches up to me. Leah found many people on here to support her and cheer her on everyday, and I'd like to find some of my own friends to support and have support me. So please add me and we can help each other reach our goals! (:
EDIT:: By the way, in order to add insult to injury, I began my first job at McDonald's last year and am still working there. When I'm starving and know that I can get free food on my shift, it's so hard to either avoid the food or even choose the healthier options.

Hi, welcome. As the website title says, this is indeed for your fitness. Good luck.0

I know how you feel - I often don't tell anyone (even my friends and family) that I watch what I eat. All I hear is, but you're so skinny! When really I'm just skinnier than they are...I want to be healthy and I know that my poor eating habits will catch up to me soon. It's hard to work in fast food and choose not to eat the free unhealthy foods. At McDonald's, maybe you can get the salads and yogurt options instead of fries (though I love fries..)?
Feel free to add me as a friend and best of luck!0 -
babydull - Thank you! (:
aejbx4x7s(tough username! lol) - Believe it or not, a small fry is less calories than the 8oz Fruit n' Yogurt Parfait! I saw that and was like, "Well in that case I might as well eat the damn fries!" But I realized that the parfait has better calories for you, so I still eat those :P And I've begun only eating the salads as my entree, and cut out soda completely. I've gone about 2 weeks without soda, 1 1/2 weeks only salad so it's a good start I think. Thanks a bunch, added! (:0 -
The job sounds rough. Nice that you get free food, but the type of food must be so annoyingly tempting. I'm in the same situation as you. I'm "skinny" but I really don't feel that way (probably b/c I was chubby my whole childhood and at one point weighed sixty pounds more than I weigh now). Anyways! What has been very helpful for me on here is seeing everybody else's ideas about food, exercise, motivation, and more. I didn't think I would enjoy exercising but I joined a gym and have been consistently going and enjoying it! Try to find exercise you like -- I like elliptical-ing with my ipod and strength training exercises (but not on the machines). Feel free to add me if you'd like0

megansprague - The food is indeed tempting, I gotta say. But I'm realizing that the 'healthier' options (I mean what exactly is healthy at McDonald's? lol) are just as tasty if not tastier than the fatty options.
Once my girlfriend started getting friends on here she told me is easier and helps to have their support and to read the forums and things, so I'm finally starting to get into that.
I'm a little too broke to join a gym right now haha but I've gone a few times (going today on Leah's membership (: ) and I do enjoy it. One day I'll pay for one! And thanks, I'll definitely add you. (:0
