Greetings everyone........I am new to the board and really struggling......

About 12 years ago I lost a significant amount of weight which starting when I woke up one day and said I have had enough.......I hated myself and my life and knew something had to change........from the moment I said I had enough I was 100% focused on losing weight.............nothing else in my life mattered......I lost 70lbs in four months..........I lived in the gym and was making losing weight my "god"

The problem was I can't live like that and when I found losing weight and looking good wasn't making me happy I turned my focus to the Lord, seeking Him as Lord of my life and my one true God. What an amazing time in my life BUT because I reverted to my old habits and stopped living at the gym I gained all the weight back and than some.

Now I am trying to figure out how to get to the point where I can just decide to do this and do it when I no longer hate myself or my life.......my past trigger, self hatred and loathing, no longer have the power to control my life.........joy, peace and love keep a song in my heart.........so how do I get the a healthy mindset which propels me towards a healthy future?

I am trying to find something which will trigger a defining moment.........that moment of time where I turn and begin to walk a different direction from the direction I am currently walking when it comes to my health........I will not make working out, controlling my food, and losing weight a "god" in my life again........how do I find the balance I need to still have the Lord of my life and be able to give everything it takes to lose the huge amount of weight I have to lose?.

I keep saying I have to do this, and I do, yet I can't seem to get the same mindset I had back then.....I can't seem to find that defining moment.......

What was your defining moment? What triggered you to become serious and turn your focus and effort on losing weight? How do you keep balance in your life and lose weight without giving food and working out a too high a role in your life?

I guess my "defining moment" was when I saw a picture of myself and realized that I was not as small as I thought. My friends started losing weight, and I figured if they could do it, so could I. It's a constant balance keeping the Lord first, and not getting too caught up in the physical. But I guess you just have to realize that your physical body is connected to your spiritual well-being. Your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, and you are called to be a good steward of all things that God has given you... including your body. To take care of yourself, eat right, and exercise is to be a good steward of a wonderful gift. But yes, I think when you are so focused on your body, it becomes easy to worship the creation rather than the Creator. Maybe try starting each exercise session or workout with a prayer, and maybe find a verse to memorize. Recite that verse over and over throughout your session, and that will keep your focus where it should be, and then you will have more of God's word hidden in your heart. The other thing to remember is that, as a follower of God, YOU can't do anything in your own power. You can strive and strive and strive but we will always fall short... your power has to come from the Most High. Lean on Him, and He will lead you to the balance you are looking for. Hope that helps, and I hope you have great success!!
