Whats the right amount of exercise?

I generally shoot for burning 400 calories in about an hour, 4 days a week. Is that ok for proper weight loss? I try to mix up my exercises. But my question is, how much is enough? Should I be burning more or less? I only have an hour a day and my work out exhausts me for the rest of the night and even the next day. I'm a numbers kind of girl so I'm just not sure if I'm doing this correctly.

That sounds fine. Keep in mind that fat loss is 90% diet; you should be able to keep losing without exercise. The exercise portion is to improve your fitness. Three to four days a week for an hour each including cardio and strength training is adequate.

Well, that sounds to me like a good goal for your exercise. But be sure to track your exercise in MFP and, based upon how you set up your goals in the tool, you will know whether or not that's enough exercise to lose what you are shooting to lose. It is truly calories in, calories out. So the numbers and amounts are going to be different for everyone.

Nutrition definitely factors in as well. I have a friend who is using MFP to track his food but he does no exercise. He has lost almost 20 pounds just by tracking his food, and based upon how he set his weight loss goals in the tool. Obviously, it is better if you can add in exercise, as you are doing. But the bigger point is it's all about creating a calorie deficit.

Good luck! You're on the right track!

It's a personal preference. Whatever you burn, be sure to replenish with nutritous food. Your MFP calorie balance should be close to zero at the end of the day.

I don't burn many calories when I exercise. I do a little here and there. I think I average about 250 exercise calories a day. My favorite forms of exercise are: Pilates, Yoga, Ballet Conditioning, walking. Once a week I usually throw in elliptical, step, or some kind of cardio dance. But generally I just go for brisk walks. I do Yoga 1-2 times a week. Pilates 1-2 times a week. And Ballet Conditioning once a week. That's my usual routine. It works. I also eat back my exercise calories.
