Protein Overdose?

Hi all!
So I've been using MFP for a few days now, and I've noticed that I tend to be eating over the amount of protein it says for me (I was actually eating far less in calories than I was supposed to, so I switched my pounds per week plan). I'm not over eating on it by a lot, but seeing the red has me a bit concerned. I have been exercising quite a bit. Are there any repercussions for eating too much protein?

No! and I have no idea why the MFP defaults are the way they are but most people have said that is a minimum protein amount for health. You should actually try to get 1 gram of protein for every pound of lean body mass you have. I set my macros to 40/40/20 for protein carbs and fat, but I am always under on protein now, usually over on fat but oh well! you will find if you can get 100 grams of protein per day you'll be less hungry and overall consume fewer calories for the most part.0

MyFitnessPal actually is kind of skimpy on the protein. You usually need to be eating a good amount more than it advises. For instance, it tells me that I should be at 82 for the protein, but in reality I feel best, lose the most weight and have the most energy when I eat around 120. A lot of people have told me the same. Being in the red for your protein is nothing to worry about, unless maybe you're like 200 over or something, haha.0

Those high protein, low, carb diets can put your body into something called Ketosis. Which if you do it for a while can cause your kidneys to shut down. This site is designed to make sure that you eat balanced meals. Eat more whole grains and the fiber will outweigh some of the caloric intake you're eating and will also help with other things like cholesterol and will not force your body into ketosis.0

Going over on protein is fine for the most part. There is a threshold that's too much, though. That number is unknown to me and you're better off researching that or talking to a doctor. Too much protein actually leeches calcium from your bones. If you're going to go way over on protein, take a calcium supplement. As women we need to be careful of that. Also (I haven't seen your diary), but I'd say it's too much if it's getting in the way of you getting your 5+ servings of veggies a day. Good luck!0
