i have amazing husband and i love him tons!!!! we have been overweight before we started dating. after being together for almost 5 years, i have put on 70 pounds him almost 100. i started my weight lose journey in august of last year. it has been a on and off process. i have lost almost 30 pounds. i am trying to make the transition to completely dedicated to this journey 100% of time. i feel like in my home i don't have tons of support of family and friends. does anyone have any have any ideas to help my husband to be as motivated as me. because i will be motivated to sticking to my diet and working out but then he will talk me into eating not so healthy food or skipping a workout. we have talk several times said he wants to lose weight, but he almost seems scared of the change. i have tried everything i can think of.

Good Luck! For me, my husband had to see me loosing and there was less sugar in the house and healthier dinners, so he really did not have a choice but to loose a few. Then once he without trying saw he was loosing some, he became motivated on his own. He ended up loosing 30 lbs in 3 months and it was all "his idea".0

Kind of in the same situation... we've been together just over 4 years, I had twins almost 2 years ago... he hasn't really put on weight per say... but he has gotten a beer gut. My hubby doesn't workout at all, and won't exercise with me or go on walks with me really sucks and he's really bad about compliments LOL he doesn't give any. I'm lucky that when I go on walks the kids (5 of them 7-2 in age) go with me... lately I've found a couple other friends that walk as well, so that has helped some. Would love to see more answers! good luck you can do it, even if he doesn't want to yet... he may see the changes from you losing weight and decide to join you.0

Im in a similar situation, it is tough! I havnt been able to get my husband motivated but havr been able to get him to be a little healthier. I cook healthy things that I can still get him to eat(turkey burgers, lean steak, corn ect..) also for the staples Ive been trying to get the healtier things (light yogert, low fat milk ect..). Aso I keep asking him about taking walks and he is finallly coming around a little. Also I share everything about my weightloss with him, how many calories i eat everyday, what exercise I do in a day, and everytime Iose a pound. I don't want him to feel bad about himself but Im hoping seeing me so happy with the changes Im making will help to motivate him.
Good Luck!0 -
I totally understand about your husband, mine is the same way - I love him lots but he's the hardest part of trying to eat healthier! He always tempts me to go out to eat or snack when i know better but don't have the will power. My husband also has a little extra weight, not much, but I'm trying to encourage him to want to be healthier too. Sometimes just being honest helps (I'll say, "ordering pizza sounds really good but I have to try to stay on track, could we try something else for dinner?" it's easier to portion when we are making dinner at home too. If I can get him grilling something while I make a salad and sides that helps, and grilled chicken or pork chops can be so versitile with flavorings and healthy alternatives to fried order out food.
What really motivates me is when I complete an entry for the day and it gives me that "5 weeks" estimate!
I've asked him to go on walks with me for company and the exercise but don't have much luck. I'm looking for ways to get him more involved too, for overall health. Good luck to you and great job on the first 30 pounds!!!!0 -
I find girl friends to go work out with! Even meet some at the classes. I also do all the shopping so...not much bad stuff in the house! lol I also try to do most of the cooking, and guess what it's healthy too! lol
Now guess what I caught my husband doing twice this past week?! You guessed it! He went to the gym on his own twice!!! I have been doing this for the past 3 mos, and this is a first. Me, I'm quiet as a church mouse, and letting him do it his way! But I'm still doing it my way for me! You go girl!!!!!0 -
thank you everyone for the extra ideas! i think where i am struggling is he is a very very picky eater. he also grew up in a home where they didn't eat a lot of veggies/fruits/whole grains/fish. so it is hard to help him start making better food choices cause when he tries them he says he doesn't like them. also he is great at making excuse for not working out. but i think i will try talking to him again. is there anyone else out there that went though this that has any tips or tricks that worked for them?0

ARe you Catholic? We always do something for Lent! lol, sorry, that's how I started this year...I guess it's too late for that this year?! ;-)
On a more serious note: I have noticed that just by making food and not eating out you can cut a ton of calories! Then work with recipes. I also find that by planting gardens and fruit trees, and canning (and putting the family to work) they invariable eat some. I also make it a point that everyone has to eat one bite at each sitting.
Of course we still have our challenges. This week every time I said I wanted to grill fish I got ewwwwwww! So I said fine! And didn't cook anything! Finally after about 3-4 days it was like "when are you going to cook?!" I said, OK but I am cooking what I want! We had grilled tuna steaks, basmati rice(long grain white) cooked in homemade chicken broth, and fresh green beans(yes with a lil bacon and parmesan cheese on top). And you know what?! There wasn't a single left over!
Start pouring over cook books and looking for ways to make food everyone might like, or at least one food on their plate, lol
A couple of weeks ago I made tator tot casserole...and pureed a quart of home canned green beans and added it to the ground hamburger! No one knew the difference!!!!
My husband wouldn't eat veggies or salad when we got married, but then he discovered homemade ranch dressing, and many other ways to make veggies! Now he chastises his Mother!
Good luck, and stick to your guns MOM!!!0 -
