Has anyone done the paleo diet? I was thinking of trying it to get rid of these pesky last 10 lbs! Is this diet successful? Any feed back about it would be great!

i don't follow the paleo diet specifically, but for the most part i eat a "whole foods" diet. Meaning everything is as it was pulled out of the ground, off the tree, or cut from the animal. It's easy to do once you get into a routine, and i eat as much raw fruits and veggies as possible. I do use very minimally processed food items such as extra virgin olive oil, cheese, vinegar, almond milk, etc. I eat a lot of nuts and beans but not wheat.0

The paleo diet or primal diet are basically ways of eating that predate farming. Food as it was gathered or killed, without any processing of any sort like canning fruits, or processing olives into oil, or wheat into bread. its eating wild foods in their natural state, to put it simply.0 -

I will be 5 months in on Saturday. I've dropped between 35-40 lbs (official weigh in/bodyfat measurement on Sat) and between 8-10% bodyfat along with 6 jean sizes. I also use LeanGains intermittent fasting. I keep my carbs in the <50g range, per day, and have had decent success.0 -

i followed the Paleo Diet closely for a year and it helped me quell alot of medical conditions i suffered from, and loose another 50lbs. I also felt a lil bonkers towards the end but loved what the style of eating did for me, so i've gone more towards a primal lifestyle (because it truely has become a new lifestyle, not just a weight-loss diet) it isn't easy though, the first month of detoxing from grains and sugar is harder than most can handle, but those that can hack it, will reap the health and weight-loss benefits if you follow it. I personally recommend doing some research on both Paleo and Primal Blueprint lifestyles and seeing which you feel would work best for you and what your goals are, but if only those last 10lbs are your concern, just clean eating and cardio with diligence will do it for you.0 -

I have told several people I chat with about this: I suggested them to try 30 days without grains, JUST GRAINS! If they still have grains in their pantry cupboard then WEAN from it till it's gone and do 30 days of no grains! Then SEE how you feel so far without grains! The reason I suggested no grains is because it is major cause of Weight gains, IBS and is anti-nutrients! As Ian Lucas quoted this: "The Big Ideas are to avoidgrains whose proteins will worm their way through your intestines, vegetable fats that will rust you like a piece of steel, and excessive sugar that will harm you six ways from Sunday."
Let me know how you fared without grains for 30 days! I did… I LOST some weights and I felt better!
Important! Eat WHOLE REAL foods, Do exercises, rest and sleep LONGER! (don't rely on alarm!) and Get some SUN for Vita D! (I don't lather lotions at all that's another story as I have gone Paleo/Primal on hygiene aspects!)
If you decided you want to do more than without grains then I recommend reading this one page article to go Paleo for 30 days! (it has downloadable PDF that you can print out)

I eat Paleo/Primal (for the most part, I do practice the 80/20 rule!) and I love it. The beginning, coming off the carbs and sugar is the hardest part. but the cravings do go away, and you will feel and look alot better for it! Since your just trying to lose the last 10, I'm sure dumping grains and sugars will help you a ton. Good Luck!0

For me, Paleo is more of a lifestyle. Not a quick fix diet. If you eat Paleo, and then go back to eating they way you normally have, you'll gain back the weight. So if you are interested in Paleo, you'll need to go in knowing this.
Kim is right. In the beginning you'll get what they call the carb-flu. You'll be tired for a week or so while you're body starts to burn fat instead of glucose. It's totally worth it.
Good luck! There's lots of us on here if you decide to do it. We'll be here for all your questions.0 -

When you say don't use lotions, do you meant sun block or all lotion? I love my lotion but I know it has a lot of crap in it. I should probably switch to something more natural like cocoa butter or shea butter.0

Don't think it's necessarily an end-all-be-all diet for fat loss. Granted, some of the principles are good, but moderation and self control with carbs combined with a good workout program is just as effective. Just eat sensibly.0

I follow something very close to the paleo diet. I won't get into whether or not I agree with their reasoning, but I do agree 100% that any diet plan that results in cutting processed sugars and starches and eating all natural foods, especially meats and cruciferous veggies is an excellent idea.
Cutting carbs to a very low level is an oft-utilized protocol for dealing with that last bit of stubborn fat as well.0 -

Excellent list of links there. Thanks! I'm going to look into the one explaining the differences between Atkins & Paleo... I've been reading up on both and following something sort of in between for the past month or so... I'm probably more Atkins than Paleo at this point. I'm also on a strict food budget... doing what I can with what I've got.0
