hi everyone, I just started last saturday and i have been really proud of myself for sticking to the diet and making sure i dont go over for the day. i have to be honest though, i have yet to reach 1,200 claories for a day... i feel like eating less will help my progress ? on a normal day i have usually 100-200 caloried left before i go to sleep. is this bad? also what is the normal amount of weight you have to lose before you and others start to notice??
thank you

I don't think you should eat under 1200 no! 1200 is the min for a small sedentry women..
Are you eating to enough?

This is just a part of it! please read the link above
Generally someone with a BMI over 32 can do a 1000 calorie a day (2 lbs a week) deficit
With a BMI of 30 to 32 a deficit of 750 calories is generally correct (about 1.5 lbs a week)
With a BMI of 28 to 30 a deficit of 500 calories is about right (about 1 lb a week)
With a BMI of 26 to 28 a deficit of about 300 calories is perfect (about 1/2 lb a week)
and below 26... well this is where we get fuzzy. See now you're no longer talking about being overweight, so while it's still ok to have a small deficit, you really should shift your focus more towards muscle tone, and reducing fat. This means is EXTRA important to eat your exercise calories as your body needs to KNOW it's ok to burn fat stores, and the only way it will know is if you keep giving it the calories it needs to not enter the famine response (starvation mode)

Good luck on your journey0 -
You have to eat at least 1200 to maintain your muscle mass. Eating anything under that means that your body isn't getting the fuel it needs to function properly and therefore begins eating into your muscle tissue to sustain energy levels. Under 1200 is a no go. You don't want to lose weight in an unhealthy way just because you aren't seeing results right away. In the end it will cause you to gain back weight faster. It took me nearly a month to start seeing any sort of results. Be patient. All good things take time.0

what do you mean by deficit? my bmi is 27.8, so should i only eat 900 calories to have 300 left of the 1200 it tells me to eat, or do you mean from the standard 2000 calorie diet? if i eat 1700 calories i gain weight.0

The defiicit is from your calories burned from normal daily activity. If you go to the goals page under "my home", it's the first target number on the right side. You should never go under 1200 net calories.0 -
It sounds crazy but you do need to eat all of your calories. If you don't your body will go into starvation mode and you won't loose any weight. If you don't eat enough your body will hang on to all of your body's weight because it thinks you are starving and will use that weight to keep your vital organs going.0

Great job on sticking with it! Most people shouldn't eat under 1200 calories a day but if you are very short, that is an exception so take your height into consideration on that one.
As far as for when you'll see changes, that one varies a lot. It depends on how much you have to lose - a 10 pound loss on a 250 pound gal is barely noticeable but on a 140 pound gal it's monumental! I could see a difference in my belly and face within 10 pounds but no one at work has commented on it, so don't hold your breath for others to notice for a while.
I'd suggest taking some really good 'before' pics so you can go back to those and see your progress. I didn't take mine until I'd already lost 13 pounds which I really regret now cuz I want to SEE the changes as dramatically as possible to keep me motivated!
Good luck sweetie!0 -
I saw your ticker on your profile and you've lost 6 lbs so far. If you've only been doing this a week or so it's probably water weight which wouldn't be noticeable to others yet.
I think a good rule of thumb that I have read in the past is at a 10% weight loss is usually when others start to notice. Now that's 10% of your starting body weight, so if you weigh 200lbs it would be noticeable after losing 20 lbs. This journey will teach you patience, hang in there.0
