In 2010, I knew something was wrong. I bugged my doctor about it (MDs are only "practicing" medicine - you know your body better than they do, trust your gut until proven otherwise).

Finally she set me up with more tests and more specialists.
It began in April of 2010 and ended in July of the same year. And I'm SO glad I was a PIA. My right ovary was removed before the mass could become malignant. For those who don't know - Ovarian Cancer has VERY few symptoms that are obvious. The most common (bloating, exhaustion, mood swings, etc) can be explained away by "normal" hormone shifts, etc. I know I explained it away for a long time, but when things got progressively worse, I knew something HAD to be wrong.

Usually, Ovarian Cancer isn't caught early. There is no early detection for it (other than complaining A LOT and having your doctor think you're nuts). It's usually caught at stage 2 and later, and 85% of the women dx'd at that point die within 5 years. (Granted, those are fairly healthy, "normal" 5 years, but that's an expiration date I plan on avoiding!)

Well, I went to the doctor today, almost a year later, and everything looks great! Healthy as a horse (other than having some weight to lose). We won't know if the other ovary will STAY well, but so far so good! (And now I know what to look for!)

yeah, I used to avoid going to the doctor too. I hated getting bad news (and was REALLY tired of hearing "you need to lose weight!") But ya know, I realized that MD's have seen a LOT worse than me, so it's better to be SAFE than sorry!
Trust me, you think a Pap Smear is bad?! Check out my blog last year regarding the Endometrial Biopsy:

Oh for crying out loud!! They couldn't numb the area first? Or if not, how about knocking you out with some drugs, or a whiskey bottle, or anything! I had be knocked completely out when I got my wisdom teeth out...that's how wimpy I am!! lol By the way, I did schedule my appt. and while I'm there, I'll have them schedule a "boob squishy" as well!

There are no words to describe it!
We'll see what happens w/ the other one, but I have no plans to get that one in working order (aka get off the pill) until late next year, but I'm takin' this as a big victory with me today! (Oh yeah, and the guy I wrote about in the above referenced article that had just finished boot camp? I'm marrying him. :) )

I'm guessing the needle to shoot some numbing goo in there would be worse than the procedure. I've NEVER wanted to throw up because of pain before. That was a first!

Go get 'em tiger! Peace of mind is totally worth the trip.
PS - I was COMPLETELY knocked out for my wisdom teeth too - though the lap. oopherectomy was my first surgery.

Haha yes! I'm marrying Dirk Nowitzki. No if's and's or but's about it. Haha. Tall baller from the G, watch out for the shortie from the 505. I believe that we should be friends on this ish. :)
