Post-Op "Gift Box"
Hi everyone!
My boyfriend's sister is about to undergo major, major hip surgery that's going to have her laid out for at least 6 weeks. I'm making a "gift box" (for lack of a better term) for her of fun things to do while she's recovering - playdough, coloring books, travel board games (operation! haha).
When I had surgery, the last thing I wanted was sugary treats.. Since I couldn't exercise, I could've just rubbed them on my thighs, since that's where they were going. While I appreciated the intentions, it really wasn't helpful to me, because it just made me feel like I was just ballooning up sitting on the couch and eating crap.
Does anyone have any good ideas of things to put in this box to help ease her recovery??
Thanks!!

When my sister had her surgery she was a big fan of ad libs. She would even play w/the doctors and nurses0

magazines, puzzle books, puzzles, a journal0

If she's recovering at home, maybe a Netflix subscription? That kept me entertained while I was recovering! (If she has a lap top, she can watch it on there too)0
-
mini card deck, lap pillow desk.0

Is there a service in her area that prepares healthy meals that can be delivered? A gift card to a place like that might be good. Maybe you could give a gift card to a house keeping service too. I would also include some healthy snacks like fruit, nuts etc. She'll get hungry and having healthy options from you would be a nice alternative to the sugary options other people might send.0

You should let us know how old she is, that will allow us to give you some more ideas.
My suggestions would be books, a manicure set/nail polish, some CDs with her favourite songs, a picture frame with all of her friends so she can put it next to her bed.
If she will be using a laptop, maybe you could get her a cushion for her legs, so they won't get too hot and uncomfortable. Other than that maybe just some magazines and a stuffed animal to cheer her up.0 -
Has she ever wanted to learn to knit or crochet? If so, there are cheap teach yourself books you could get with some yarn and needles or hooks. Or any type of small craft kits... latch hook, needlepoint, cross stitch.
Plus crossword books, word search books, deck of cards, rubiks cube.0 -

I meant to do this, sorry! She's 21.
The ideas so far are great! Her mom will be staying with her to ease some of the troubles, but I definitely wanted to get her some fun activities to pass the time!! Thanks so much, everyone!0 -

I hope the surgery goes well. My ideas are: stickers, a small calendar (she can use the stickers to count down the days as she feels better), iTunes or Amazon gift card, a photo album, a stuffed animal or a Webkinz, and an audiobook.0 -
If she has a laptop, a "lap desk" is a must, or one of those bed trays that have the tilting top. Another thing for the laptop, Amazon has a free Kindle app for PC's, get that set up and give her an Amazon gift card. They even have a lot of kindle books that are free. Another great post op item is vitamin E oil to help the incision heal with minimal scaring and itching. Does anyone in her area have a manicure person to go to her house and do a mani/pedi? Does she have access to a gaming system? Maybe a game would keep her busy. If you can contact a few of her friends, set up visits or mini "tea parties" (I assume she will be on pain meds so no alcohol).0
