I use a Polar to monitor heart rate and always stay in range when doing exercise like elliptical, stairmaster, or dvd routines. However, when I run I tend to go over the last mile or two. I'm over only by 10-15 beats....I don't feel over worked so I keep going. I just wonder if when I reach that level, I should stop and walk, then pick back up when it drops. In my head I think just keep on running since I'm not winded or tired - plus calorie burn is still high. Goal is maximum calorie burn.
Thoughts?

  • It's best to stay within your range, but to go up beyond on occasion is OK. I wouldn't hold it though. I'd slow a bit to let your rate drop about 10-15 below and pick up the pace again. You'll get to where you stay in range eventually! Good luck!
