Sugars and Fruit -- How bad is it?

I frequently go over my allotted amount fr sugar daily. Not just by a little bit sometimes by as much as 50g to 60g. With the exception of my morning creamer (won't sub any artificial sweetener) and a tsp or so of brown sugar in my oatmeal none of that sugar really comes from refined sources. It is mostly from fruit and maybe some organic greek yogurt, etc

How bad is it to continuously go over your sugar goal? I stay under or at my calorie goal but I can never seem to fall below the sugar goal.

Thanks!
Anna

Everyone's sugar tolerance is different. If you are consistently loosing, your fine.It also depends on the amount of activity daily. If you cant trade in that AM sugar for sweetner or the extra fruit for a yummy veggie snack, increase your cardio. The body will attempt to store what you dont burn. Hope this helped.

I started putting in a tsp of cinnamon and 1/4 c of fresh or frozen blueberries into my oatmeal instead, plus try to cut back one fruit serving if you have more than 2 per day into a veggy instead. I often go over myself but be mindful of it as well.

I don't think I've ever been under my sugar level even when eating completely fresh/natural ect. The site really needs to increase it.

    Sugar - 4kcal per gram

Starchy carb - 4kcal per gram

It's not really going to make a difference. If you're that worried about it, add some cinnamon in your diet.

I've been over some days and under on others. For me it's just something I try to watch where it is coming from and can I make changes? I've switched some of my yogurt days for cottage cheese and that reduces it. I've cut back on my candy and when I eat fruit I try not to eat too much of it. Personal choices.
  • I'm soo happy you asked this question. My sugar is constantly over as well, even if it was only a few whole pieces of fruit! Maybe they're trying to have us balance fruit with vegetables a little better? I'm not sure.. hopefully there will be some helpful answers to come :)

The most helpful answer is that the sugar level doesn't matter.

Sugar is a carbohydrate which is 4kcal per gram. A kcal is 1,000 calories. A calorie is the amount of energy need to heat 1 gram of water by 1 degree.

It's a measure of energy. If you ingest your energy from sugar compared to a starchy potato, it's not going to make a difference in your body composition. As long as you hit your micronutrient and macronutrient goals, you'll be fine. Don't sweat the charts that tell you that you're wrong for no reason.

Eat your fruit... just eat your fruit. I don't even follow my sugar levels anymore and couldn't tell you what they are after my first week on here. ALL of my sugars come from natural foods w/ the exception of the occasional 100 cal pudding. This question comes up often on MFP, but when was the last time an overweight person said, "I graduated college, started working at a desk job, ate way too much fruit, and put on 50 lbs."
