I am trying to help my mom on our weight loss journey. I set her up with this site but when she pushes the button for the end of the day i cant remember what its called it always said she will gain weight. She is extremely frustrated and ready to give up. Please help me see how to help her. I don't know how to let u see her food diary on here. Any suggestions?

this is her profile and you should be able to see her food diary0

She would need to go into her diary and make the settings open, then post on here so we know her account and can access the diary (if you search in the website tips/suggestions you can find instructions on opening your diary)
None of us can truly make healpful suggestions without seeing what she is eating and how much
**Edit. Clicked on her profile, not an open diary, make sure its public instead of friends only**0 -
Under the food tab is a settings tab. Go there and at the bottom you can set your diary to be viewed by those you allow.0

Are her goals set properly? If it says shes gaining wieght then she is eating more than what she has set as a goal. Say she is eating 1500 calories but to get to her goal weight she needs to eat only 1200, its gonna show a gain.
Take a look at her goals (they will be under goals on the main page at the top) and make sure she isnt going over them. On the food diary, anything over will be in red numbers.

OK i unlocked you should all be able to see it now Thanks so much for the help!!!! I really hate to see her give up her weight makes her so depressed and has struggled with it for such a long time.0

Have her double check her settings. Is her starting weight, current weight, goals, etc all set up correctly?0

I would suggest that she try a little bit of exercise - a 20 minute walk 3x a week will probably be enough for her to see a little result. Her diet is pretty spot on cal-wise, and her nutrients seem okay. The exercise may even pick up her mood a little bit - I always perk up after a workout.
My mum is currently struggling with her weight as well - she's joined a gym and has 2x personal training sessions a week and also a nutrition consultation once a week. She hasn't seen results on the scale for the entire year that she's been going, but she's toned up and looks great. She can't see it though which hurts me, because I think she's doing really well. Her trainer has told her that it gets harder to lose the weight the older you get, but she still is discouraged.0 -

I agree that low impact walking or swimming will help a ton.
There are only 3 days logged but here's the thing with MFP. If youre under 1200 cals (one day in the diary) it will show a gain due to starvation mode (or atleast much slower weight loss) and today she was over (even just by 13 cals) so with that it will show a weight gain. Its a careful balance.0 -
Also the longer she is on MFP, the more she logs, the better that predictor will get, one day over wont make her gain or gain as much because it balances through your eating and caloric patterns throughout your diary. That perdictor really isnt the best and the feedback forum does say its a "dumb program" in the sense it take generic data, it can be specifically geared to each person, but the more she logs the less tempermental it will be0

Past few days, she has been eating around 1200 calories. There is no way that it could be telling her that she will gain weight at that amount. Are you sure that she is reading it right? It may be giving her different amounts, and one day may say more than the next day, but it should not be showing a weight that is higher than what she weighs right now.
At the end of the day, everybody's body reacts differently, and regardless of what the site says you will lose it may not be that exactly. You could lose much more or much less. So as long as she is seeing an actual weight loss on the scale, it doesn't really matter what number MFP tells her (if she is eating the way that the most recently entries in her food diary show consistently). There are only 3 days logged but here's the thing with MFP. If youre under 1200 cals (one day in the diary) it will show a gain due to starvation mode (or atleast much slower weight loss) and today she was over (even just by 13 cals) so with that it will show a weight gain. This is not true. The only way that it will show a weight gain is if you eat OVER your maintenance calories for the day. Also the longer she is on MFP, the more she logs, the better that predictor will get, one day over wont make her gain or gain as much because it balances through your eating and caloric patterns throughout your diary. That perdictor really isnt the best and the feedback forum does say its a "dumb program" in the sense it take generic data, it can be specifically geared to each person, but the more she logs the less tempermental it will be
This is also not true. If you read what it says when you complete your diary, it says "if every day were like today" ... meaning that it is ONLY taking into consideration THAT day. Nothing else. If everyday for the next five weeks was exactly the same and you ate those foods in those amounts, your weight is predicted to be whatever output it gives you. It does not take any other days from your food diary into consideration.0 -
For two out of the three days, she has eaten over her daily allotted calories, so that is why it is showing her gaining weight. She needs to either: change goals, watching eating more closely or exercise! Good luck!0
