Steps converted to calories burned

Do anyone knows how to convert 30,000 steps into calories burned?

I bought a cheap pedometer ($7.99) that does it for me.

When you get it you enter your weight and stride length (it tells you how to measure that) and it does the math.
at the press of a button I can switch between # of steps taken, distance and calories burned.
