To little is just as bad as to much!

Who would have thought! Since I am more than 100lb overweight, people assume I must eat to much. Even my doctor, when i go to see him always say "you must be eating more than you write down". I sware if I hear that one more time I just might choke him!
So with all my frustration, I went to see a nutritionist. I printed out all my pages from MFP diary to show her what I've been eating. She took one look at said "firt thing your not feeding your body" I had days were I was eating less than 1000 cal. Now on the surffice that might seam good. But in reality it is not! Also, my calories were not spread out evenly through the day. Sometimes I would skip meals. (BAD VERY BAD) So my body didn't know what to do. In an effort of self preservation it was in starvation mode: store everything just in case.
So Natalie (my nutritionist) gave three small goals. 1- keep up with you food journal at least 5 out of the 7 days. 2- Eat every 3-4 hours. 3- plan balanced meals. Seam simple right. Most of us think about the balenced meals when we eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner. But she told me even with my snacks to have a protien with fruit, protien with veggies. Eating small amount of protien through out the day gives your body the fuel it needs to loose weight. So now I try to do that. I say try because if you look at my food journal you'll see I am not always successful. But it gives me a goal to work for. I have also been working to keep my low at 1200 cal while staying below my high which for me is 1460 cal. I also do not use my exercise calories as an excuse to eat more. Remember wea're trying to loose.
The results. I have lost 4lb in 2 weeks. So it's working! The moral of the story is you have to feed your body to loose and mantain a good weight. Let's not forget that!

This is all so true and yet I have trouble with this as well. I have not been eating enough calories, especially during my work week. I am just so busy that I don't have time to sit and eat enough. I will try and do better but at this point my body is actually shedding the weight with the deficit I am creating so I am torn about eating more.0

I recently ran into the same problem!!! I was eating around 900-1000 in a day!!! Was up and down on the scale. Upped my calories to 1200-1400 and started dropping weight!!! Keep it up you can do it!!!0

Doctors are not nutritionist so they lack certain info unless they have actively done the research and taken more than the few nutritional classes they are required to take for their degree. Sometimes they think they are all knowing but if this isn't their area of expertise they should refer you to someone that knows more instead of assuming.
I'm glad you went to a nutritionist so they can better access your eating habits and get you on the right track.0 -
I'm glad someone set you on the right path and that it's working. Be careful about the exercise though... if you burn too many calories and AREN'T eating them back it's the same as not eating enough because it makes your calorie deficit too big and could still send you back into starvation mode. MFP sets your calorie guidelines to enough of a deficit for you yo lose weight WITHOUT exercise which is why you can (and really SHOULD) eat them back...0
