Early morning Protein

Someone just told me that I should eat 30g of protein every morning within 30 minutes of waking up. He said this will help with my weight loss....
Has anybody else every heard this? Has anyone ever tried it??

kind of sounds like a pick up line.
I do know that having a protein shake after working out helps keep my muscles from being sore afterward. Will early morning protein help you loose weight? I can't say for sure on that one. Perhaps increased energy?0 -
well you still need to count your calories, i dont see how this will change anything. Maybe after a workout in the morning it could help. That would be a very large breakfast with that much protein.0

I tend to eat more carbs in the morning and more protein at night. I don't know that eating 30g of protein at breakfast will help with weight loss.. but, I don't know that it won't.
Keep in mind - we are all VERY different and our bodies respond to different things in different ways. What works for my body may not work for yours.0 -
Lots of protien keeps you from being hungry all the time - keeps you from having big dips in blood sugar ! Just remember to drink plenty of water !0

I've never heard that the actual action of eating the protein will help you lose weight. That said, when I DO eat protein for breakfast which I try to do daily I tend to be less hungry thoughout the whole day, not just between breakfast and lunch. Give it a try. See what works for you, since every body is different!0

Not sure about the 30g part, but studies have shown that people who start their day with protein instead of carbs are fuller longer and tend to eat a smaller lunch, thus helping the weight loss. New studies are suggesting that you eat more protein in the morning instead of carbs.0

That's an idea from the 4 Hour Body by Tim Ferriss. That's the name of the book he wrote about his diet. I havn't tried it, but some people say it helps them loose weight. Search for 4 Hour Body in the topic boards and you'll find a lot about it.0

I have 30 grams every morning and about 100 grams per day as per my Doctor and Nutritionist.
I do a protein shake. Lots of other ways, egg white, greek yogurt, cottage chese with some protein powder mixed in.
The big three are Protein, Fiber and Water. Got to have them all for a healthy lifestyle.0 -
IF you work out first thing in the morning (I do not) then you are better waiting until after the workout.
If you don't workout in the AM - Protein will help jump start your metabolism ever so slightly more than a carb heavy breakfast.
That being said - mornings ARE the best time for carbs...
I do a protein shake within 15 minutes of getting up - it is what Doctors, trainers, and nutritionists have told me to do if I'm not working out in the AM...

I eat protein with every meal and most snacks. I try to stick with pretty high protein in general (at least 120g, up to 170 some days). I almost always have greek yogurt with about 1/4 cup of grape nuts mixed in and it is 28g of protein and pretty low cal 230 (I think). For me the more protein I eat the faster I lose weight.0

I don't know the science. I just know I gotta start the day with protein to have a good one. I am closer to 15 grams though0 -

I don't tend to eat a bunch of protein in the morning and I don't find that I get overly hungry. Course, I eat every 2-3 hours as it is - so maybe I don't notice it because I eat so frequently? I find that 5-6 smaller meals tends to work better for me than 3 larger meals.0 -
He/She must be a Tim Ferris fan.... I do try and have a lot of early morning protein & fiber, as to the exact science on it, there may be some truth, but who knows. Everyone is different, if there was a master plan, pill, exact science, none of us would be overweight and there would not be so many articles, pills, varying opinions, on the subject. But it's worth a try I guess, right?0

I'm not sure if they do, but if you are lifting and drinking a protein shake after working out, and if you are eating a fair amount of protein rich foods, be careful about how many shakes you have bc if you over do the protein shakes you can damage your liver0
