Eggs in your Protein Shake?

You don't have to put eggs in your protein shake... do you?

I actually just bought my first jug of protein powder today. I plan on adding it to my usual daily smoothie, which is:

1 cup - Almond Milk Plain
1/2 cup - Greek Yogurt Plain
2 teaspoons - Barleans Omega Swirl - Omega 3 Fish Oil Mango Peach
1 scoop - Purity Products - Triple Greens
1.25 cup - President's Choice - 4 Berry Frozen Fruit Blend

.. So if I add whey protein powder to that, it should be okay right?

I mainly got the protein powder today because I seem to not be able to get nearly enough protein in my daily diet... I am only averaging about 40 g per day.

I know they say that these "protein shakes" are mostly for pre and post workout. But I plan on having mine in the morning as breakfast... does that do anything bad?

So my two questions are:

1: Do I need to put eggs or egg whites in my protein shake for it to be effective? (I really don't want to...)
2: I am not using it for pre and post workouts... I am using it as breakfast to get my protein higher... am I just being counter productive or is it still helpful I am doing this?

I don't know anyone (heavy lifter or not) that puts eggs into their protein shakes. Berrys, yogurt, milk and peanut butter yes but never eggs. There is no specific time you have to drink protein shakes, lifters and runners do it after a workout or before because it helps build muscle mass quicker.
  • No you don't need to add eggs it depends on how much protein is in the powder and you will gain some muscle if you have it in the morning.

I am pretty sure eggs it self is the protein that those muscle men from the 80s and 90s used instead of powders. that and steroids. :)

Which protein shake mix did you get? I'm using Body Fortress Super Advanced Whey Protein and it has 52g of protein. I don't put egg whites in it. I use 2 scoops in a 12 oz. glass of Lactaid 100% fat free milk. I don't add anything else to it, because I don't want the extra calories or carbs.

Uggh - that brought back images of Rocky downing those raw eggs... I would think the protein shakes replace the need for raw eggs...

I put egg whites in all my protein shakes. One goes with milk and the other is with water. They taste great and so thick just like a real shake.

No eggs, gross bleh! I normally do berrys, oj and protein powder or milk, banana, and protein powder :) You aren't being counter productive but if you drink one after your workout it'll help more. Drinking it within an hour of your workout will allow your body to break it down and use it to rebuild your muscles better.

    1. No. Not at all. Not unless you want to.
    2. I drink protein shakes as breakfast all the time. I see nothing wrong with it as long as you are eating "real" food at other times. I mean, really though, my particular shakes consist of milk or fruit juice, fruit, and protein powder....other ingredietns that people often add are yogurt, flax seeds, etc.....which is all real food, just blended into something easy and portable. :) Drinking protein shakes right after working out helps your body recover from the workout better/faster, but I don't think there is any negative effect to drinking them at other time as well.

If you see egg whites along with my breakfast shake it is because I scrambled them up in a frying pan :o) I am not doing a Rocky to get protein in. Just not going to happen :)
