So what calorie count should I believe? I went for a 3.5 hr bike ride on sunday and I came in with the following counts. Bike computer = 1700, MFP = 3100, Map my ride = 2700 Timex HRM = 3500. bike computer is not programed, MFP & Map My Ride are up to date with Stats. Timex HRM was programed with age, weight and max heart rate. Only thing wrong I think is my max heart rate. Number entered is to low.(Max heart rate reached was almost max amount entered but had a lot left in the tank)

My age is 49, weight is 215 and a 6'1"male.

I would say trust the heart rate monitor...

If you have an HRM, then use it--it is going to be the most accurate. I use mapmyride, too and it's never even close to what my HRM says. MFP is always way way off, too.

You can figure to burn about 500-600 or so (maybe as high as 700) per hour riding depending upon how fast, exertion level, etc. I burn 500-650 per hour consistently riding.

Appreciate the response. I bought the HRM for the excercise zones and the calorie burned figure. I question the calorie burned figure though as on the ride I burned (per the HRM )3500/3.5hrs=1,000cal/hr. This seems a little high.

Is your HRM higher or lower than mapmyride?

Mapmyride is always higher by at least a couple hundred. You're a male, so you're metabolism is going to be high--I can see how you'd burn 1000 calories an hour. Particularly if you're riding in BC--lot of mountains, right?

Not the bike count that's for sure. It's the lowest. No really the bike computer doesn't take into account anything except distance taveled and velocity. Weight, age, and heart rate are big factors and they need to be accounted for. I would use the HRM
