Wow....Read this article about strength training, interesting. Your clothes will fit better because "one pound of fat takes up 18 percent more space than one pound of muscle." SO.. even if you lose a pound of fat, and gain a pound of muscle because of exercise and the scale does not go down, you will look better and your clothes will fit better! This helps scale watchers like me, so I don't get frustrated when the scale does not drop.

So very true. I have to remind myself that when people say "a pound of muscle weighs more than a pound of fat", what they are really trying to say is that muscle is denser than fat. The true comparison is to say that a particular volume of muscle (let's say a cubic inch) DOES weigh more than the same volume of fat, because the muscle is much more dense, e.g. the difference between a cup of diced chicken and a cup of mini marshmallows. Would that we could see inside our bodies to see the actual changes taking place (or maybe not, that might be pretty gross!); if people could see that the volume of fat they are carrying is reducing while the volume of muscle is increasing, they might not be so upset when the scale does not reflect a loss.

yup and thats why its good to keep track of inches lost and not just keeping track on the scale :) There were times I didnt lose weight but my pants were fitting lose on me so I didnt worry about it as long as I felt great in my clothes.

This is why I have learned to not use the scale as my only indicator of success. I would crazy if I did! I think it is best to look at how your inches have changed and how your clothes fit and feel.
