So after looking for a week or so over the net and at forums in here, Ive bought a hrm. its my first one and after hearing reviews on MFP i bought the Polar FT4.

Have i bought a good starting one? I was reluctatnt to spend all that money, it was £53.00, but figured Id be more angry if i were to buy a £25 one then still need another.

Well ive just got back from the gym, having used it for the first time, and i must have to say its been quite accurate with the calories it logged. On the treadmill it was almost spot on, however on the bike it was about 30 under what the bike monitor said. anyone else find this?

Also for all you guys that have a calorie counter - do you stay in the gym until you reach a certain number? and if you do whats your magic number??

Yes, my polar FT4 says I burn less cals than the machines at the gym. Personally, on a slow day at the gym, I burn about 400 cals. On a really motivated day, I shoot for 800. Have fun with your hrm:)

You bought a really good one actually.... and the price you paid is not bad. In the US, they retail for about 90 dollars!

I have a Polar FT7 but I find that the calories are always lower then what the machine says when I do the treadmill and higher when I do the elliptical.

I don't really stay in the gym until I reach a certain number.. once my 30 min of exercise are up then I'm done!

Im really glad you all agree that i have got a good one, glad i didnt get a cheapo one!!

When do you wear yours? I was thinking of wearing it when i go to the gym, on my wii fit, and when walking. I was also going to wear it when i train for my couch to 5k challenge, although i havent started this yet

You can wear it for all those actives! I generally wear mine to the gym and personal training. If I go on a legit walk around the neighborhood then I'll wear it too.

I wear mine anytime I know I am going to be exercising and logging it into MFP (Insanity / bike ride / walk around the block etc). I normally do not wear it for housework / chores unless it is strenuous like mowing the lawn or raking the yard where I am sweating and actually getting a workout.
