Hey all. I've been seeing a few posts about running in the warm weather, but I figured I'd ask, how hot would you consider too hot to run?
Today it's supposed to get to about 80 degrees here.. and I still want to go run. I didn't get a chance to yesterday with my class/work all day.. by the time I got home I just passed out for the night. Told myself I'd go today, but I'm wondering if 80 degrees would be pushing it? Oh and tonight when it cools down, I have plans with friends... so if I do go out it'd have to be soon so I can get other things done.
I'm also a new runner, I'm on week 4 of the c25k program, so I don't have too much experience with running :-p.
I'd love to hear your input!

Anytime in TX, in the 100's for the last four weeks, heat index of 110-115 today, I will run inside on the treadmill, for sure.0

80 should be ok. It's been in the high 90's where I live and if I wait to run in the evening's it's still in the low 90's, high 80's and I do ok. Just be sure to drink lots of water before and after. Good luck with your running!0

I've been told it feels 15-20 degrees hotter when you run. So if it's 80 out, your body will feel like it's 95-100! I've tried to run in warmer weather and I just can't do it. I lose steam pretty quickly. I tend to prefer no higher than the 70s, and that's pushing it. If I run in the evenings, there's usually a breeze and the sun isn't too bad, but it's still harder when it's above 70 for me.0

There should be a way that posts can be filtered from appearing in the UK!! All that talk of heat, its been cold, windy and wet here for days now!!0

I prefer to run when it's below 75, but I've run with temps into the 80s before. I sweat a LOT, even when it's cool, so I worry about dehydration. Dress lightly, and if you can't carry a water with you, bring some seedless grapes in a pouch or pocket. They're like taking a sip of water without spilling it down your shirt.0

If it's 105 or so, I'll opt to run closer to sundown (not an early riser). Even on our hottest days 115 - 118, people still run in the early AM or at night. When it gets that hot, we may not even drop below 100 overnight.0

Hasn't it been cold, windy and wet for centuries there?0 -

I hear you! I went to London last summer for 6 weeks, and it was wet and cold the whole time! Meanwhile I was getting phone calls from back in the states telling me that they were enjoying the 80-90 degree weather by going for a swim.
And thanks guys! I definitely didn't know about that body temp going up 15 degrees thing.. I guess it's whatever your body can handle perhaps?0 -
I've read a study that showed that people training in a hot environment made more progress than someone in a cool environment. I say if you can do it, do it, just make sure to drink plenty of extra water before, during, and afterward.
I've played street hockey (shoes, not roller blades) in 90+ degree weather and humid. 80's definitely shouldn't be a problem for you.0 -
Heading to larado Texas, 110-115 more or less. Love the heat! Hate the humidity heat like in the missouri, where you are just wet all the time.0

Wow what a fantastic tip! Thanks!!!
I also sweat like crazy every time I go run.. maybe I'll start chugging water now and opt to go out in a few hours :-p0 -
I think 80 is okay. In Texas, even at 5 am, it's 78 and people are running 5Ks out there. I run at 5 am, personally.

I run up to about 28C, which I think is around 80F? I am not too good on the conversion!
I tried running last summer in Italy when it was 36C, and that was a big fat NO. I managed 10 minutes.
Just looked it up and 28C is 82F and 36C is 97F.0
