So I've been doing the Couch to 5k and just did day 2 of Week 5 this afternoon. Given that I run outdoors in a park, I've found it hard to use my iphone app to track my speed because the GPS signal is so weak through all the trees. So today I made note of where I started and where I finished and plugged it into Runkeeper when I got home. I feel so slow when I'm running, so imagine my surprise when I discovered I'd been running at almost 6mph!! I was thinking I'd been running at around 4.5 - 5mph in a rough comparison to my walking speed, so I'm incredibly happy with that and feel even more motivated to get out there. Maybe pace myself a little more next time and see how long I can go for. Not bad for someone who weighs 203lbs and had awful trouble running the 60 second runs in week 1!!

I'm a new runner as well and I am only running between 5-5.2 mph, so to me 6 mph is SPEEDY...great job!!!!0

That's great! I'm a new runner, very slow, 12 min miles, but anything is better than nothing!
Keep running0 -
I have been running a while, and haven't been able to sustain 6.0 mph...you should be very proud! Congrats!0

I need a GPS app! I want to know my speed when I run. Tomorrow will be day 3 of week 5 for me. My husband estimated our run yesterday, but I still want to be more accurate when I load it in to mfp. That is a great speed to be running at! Congrats! Not much longer now and week 9 will be here before you know it! :happy:0

So sad that your GPS doesn't work well there! I use the RunKeeper app on my iPhone and I LOVE IT!!! Seriously, don't know how I'd run without it. Tells me every five minutes how I'm doing. Just the best technology ever!!!
Anyway, that's a great pace. I just finished a 5k at a 9:33 min pace, so a 10 min pace is amazing! Of course, I started at about a 14 min pace, so I'm stoked!

Thanks! But it was only 8 minutes, which although being the longest I've run for, is still just a drop in the ocean in the grand scheme of things. But onwards and upwards - day 3 of week 5 on Monday: 20 minute run with no walking... bit nervous about that one!0 -
Sorry I didn't sethis earlier. You are doing awesome! And to put things inmore perspective, that "only 8 minutes" was 80% of a mile. No doubt you could have completed the full mile.
Just recently found out I also had been under estimating my speed. Funny how we don't give ourselves the credit we deserve.
Keep it up girlfriend, maybe someday we will be running together!0 -

Don't ever put yourself down for running "only" anything! Be proud!!!! You couldn't do this before, so it's an accomplishment! You'll get there, and the 20 minute is hard, just have some music on so you don't think about it. Get something else in your head, like a grocery list or how beautiful the flowers are... anything that will distract you. But if you start thinking about how hard it is, tell yourself you can do it. You're a warrior... you're stronger than ever.. and keep going! I guarantee you'll have the sense of true accomplishment when you're done!!!! You'll be floating... at least I was!0 -
