Can it count as a serving of fruit? Does anyone eat canned fruit like oranges/pairs/peaches? Just curious, thats all. I have came across a liking to this.

I eat canned pears and peaches with cottage cheese all the time. I just make sure I get the ones in extra light syrup and then I drain the liquid. I think fruit is fruit...although obviously fresh would be better I see no reason not to count it as fruit.

why not just eat fresh fruit, so much better for you and doesn't have the added sugar

I eat canned fruit, but only if it is in 'natural juice' - not syrup or sugar added.

I count is as a fruit serving but I do log the calories for it. I find it a good standby if I have run out of fresh fruit, or to have something different to what I might have indoors at the time. Just be careful with things like prunes, breakfast apricots and other fruits that would otherwise be classed as a dried fruit as, even though they are canned in juice, they will be higher in calories than many of the other fruits such as oranges, peaches, etc. but still good for us, especially from a fibre point of view.

I have been a Weight Watcher for many years and we now don't have to count it in our ProPoints allowance, although we are still advised to be sensible about how many portions of fruit we eat. We are allowed canned fruit in juice provided we drain off the juice.

    I hope that helps.

I do also. I just look for things in extra light syrup or Dole'sfruit in real fruit juice with no HFCS. Fresh fruits can be pretty spendy
