Other than stretching, what types of exercise would be good for someone who suffers from FMS?
I have to be careful bc I tire easily and even the simplest of workouts makes me feel like I have been hit by a truck the next day. My joints also get sore pretty easily.
Help!!

Light to moderate cardio exercise is a good place to start. Start with a very small amount of time and work from there. For me, I had to start with five minutes on the treadmill. In my experience, getting the muscles warm with cardio does help with soreness and mobility. You can build up time gradually if you go slowly.
Yoga is good, but again, start slow. Some styles of yoga are more challenging than others. You might look for a DVD that says "for flexibility" (I have one called "yoga for flexibility with Rodney Yee" that is particularly good) or a "restorative" (it might say "for relaxation" yoga dvd.
Feel free to message me with other questions.
A very valuable thing my doctor once said is "remember your muscles might hurt but they won't BE hurt." In other words, soreness doesn't equal injury, just soreness.:flowerforyou:0 -
Oh, and you also might want to see if a YMCA near you has the following: a pool heated to a "therapeutic temperature" (they'll know, or should know what you're talking about) and an arthritis class. That's another thing I started with.:flowerforyou:0

My Mom has Fibro!! She has been dealing w/ it for a couple yrs, but in the last year it's gotten a lot worse for her.
She has ordered some workouts from me from Beachbody. She really loves Debbie Siebers, and she just came out with a new workouts for people that have injuries. Here's what it says...
Learn how fitness trainer Debbie Siebers, creator of Slim in 6®, recovers from her own aches, pains, and injuries. In Total Body Solution™ she'll show you how the right exercises can prevent and help heal injuries.
My Mom says that stretching really helps her. She is also using the Slim in 6 and Slim Series workouts. The Dr. said that lifting light weights has really helped her also.
HTH & ask if you have any more questions! I hate how I've seen my Mom suffer from Fibro!!!

my mom also has fibro. her doctor told her to do either tai chi, yoga or low impact water exercises.

Swimming in general is a very low impact exercise. The water will keep a lot of the pressure off of your joints and you can do laps at a steady pace until you see how your body reacts or water walking. Swimming also is a good strengthening workout also. You work out more muscles than if you were to just run/jog/walk.0

One of the girls who was a finalist in the Million Dollar Body game from Beachbody last year has fibro... and she did P90X!!!! Now, that's just inspiring right there!0

You can do anything with Fibro! But, you have to work up to it.
(I do.)
That lady is my hero, though. P90X is intense.0 -
I ordered a DVD from Net Flix.
It was Fit for 40+ beginners Pilates.
It was smooth and slow.
I didnt think I had done a thing, which is good because usually I feel I must lie down after exercise. The next day i could feel the muscles I worked, but in a good way.
If you are interested send me a note and I will get the exact name. NetFLix has a 2 dvd per month offer for 5 bucks-so i am trying new exercise videos.
good luck:flowerforyou:0 -

Thanks for all those wonderful suggestions. I got on my stationary bike last night for about 10 min and then walked around my building at work for 15 min today.
Now I am getting on my bike again tonight!!0
