You might want to look into different types of shoes that can help correct that for when you are exercising. There is a local store near me that has this computer which watches you on a treadmill and can figure out what kind of shoe you need. Or, if all else fails, just get something that feels like it has arch support and then use some insert supports along with the new shoes.
I am not sure about exercises though.0 -
I have had flat feet....forever....to stretch your feet out when they hurt put your foot up against a wall, try to do so without bending your toes back but using the bottom of your foot and lean in, you should do this standing upright, you'll feel it in your calves as well, but it alleviates some of the pain right away. Also while sitting you can point your toes toward yourself, then relax and repeat a few times that will help. It's an issue with the tendon that runs along the bottom of your foot and basically you're stretching it because it's all tensed up from overuse.
I find shoe wise that the best solution is for me to buy running shoes, good ones (I prefer some of the Nike runners), and you have to change your sneakers out about every 6-8 months because the soles inside break down, and you may even have uneven wear on the rubber outersole, which can cause your feet even more stress. But if the outersole looks fine you could always replace the innersoles, but try with a more firm innersole, not a gel one, because gel tends to move around more and you don't want your foot to be constantly in motion it will make the pain even worse (my foot-doctor told me not to use gels for this reason).
Looks like a lot of good tips! Also I have noticed that certain machines make the pain worse than others, and over time the pain isn't as bad as it was at first....could be that I weigh less, could be that I'm just getting used to the workouts.

Go find a running store and have them fit you for shoes. Also the New Balance Store (their specific store not just the athletic shoe store in the mall that sells them) can do it. You need to have your feet scanned and your gait evaluated to find the right shoes and/or inserts for you. I'm not completely flat footed but pretty close. Getting the right shoes for me was the best thing I could ever do! My back pain has eased probably 50% just from changing shoes.0

I have it too. My physio gave me 2 exercise.
1. Lifting the toes up and attempting to put them back down on the ground as widely as possible starting with pinky toe.
2. Bend toes inwards and concentrate on putting pressure down on the big toe into the ground and getting the arch. Hold for 5 seconds and repeat.0
