Butter and fats

Hi everyone

I live in the UK and have a question. I home cook everything and since joining this site have been startled to see how many calories are in things especially butter and fats.

Can anyone recommend a replacement for spreadable butter that doesn't taste of plastic? I have tried olive spreads but they had an unfortunate effect on my digestion (whiffy lol).

Also to make pastry I use 1/2 lard and 1/2 hard margerine any alternatives there??

Thanks as I have realised a lot of my daily cals and fat intake are 'wasted'on these.

For a spreadable butter, I use Lurpak Lighter. Not sure about using it in baking, but I do like it as a spread when I still wanting a little bit of butter. As for pastry, I really have bid it farewell for now, because it is sooooo calorific without having a good nutritional return.
