Today I was thinking about how long I've been fighting being fat. I was born fat and was always the pudgy kid in the group. But when did I start actually fighting it? I was 12 years old. I wore a size 12 (same as my mother at the time) and weighed about 130 pounds. Then I met Paul Bernstein. "Mr. Physical Fitness USA. He owned a fitness club where my mother taught "dancercise" classes. Paul was much more than a club owner. He was at one time a world recognized body builder, In the 60’s, he had his own health and fitness show. In 1956, he opened the first health spa in Beaumont, Texas. In the late 80’s, he was invited to serve on the Presidents’ Council on Fitness & Sports. He passed away a few months ago and the truth is his death is what caused me to look at myself and make the decision to fight again. But the thing I remember the most about Paul, the thing that made me really try when he let this 12 year old have a membership and work out in his club, was every time I saw him he told me I was beautiful!

I believe his wife, Sandy, is continuing his work to educate and support Physical Fitness.
