Always seeing you guys on here doing eliptica and elliptical training. Could you tell me whether you have your own machine, and if so, what make is it? Is it reliable? Small? And generally if you like it? We are thinking of investing in one and wondered if we could get away with a cheap one!!!!!

I've been looking for one to buy too, but the one at the gym, has so much more to it, I cant find an inexpensive one with all the bells and whistles. I worked out on a friends cheap one, and it just felt cheap, unstable, ick.. I've decided to stick with the one at the gym, untill I can afford a good one.

I use the elliptical at a gym. As with most equipment, I suspect that you get what you pay for. You probably don't need to get a top of the line machine, but the cheap ones seem awfully flimsy to me.
  • We have a super cheap Gold's Gym Stridetrainer from Walmart. We have had it since February. It makes some pops and clicks, but my husband was 410 when he started using it, and it has worked this whole time. It has some programs you can use. It was $277 to purchase, but it has saved both of us gym memberships and it is in our house, so no driving to the gym to use as an excuse lol.

I have one in my garage with my treadmill & a gym. Mine is a Nordic track. It folds up some...but is pretty big in the house. I like it outside....when I workout it's cooler out there. I also have a tv right in front of it!
If your looking to buy & have craig's list...you can get a really nice one for cheap.....and alot of times people buy them at New Years and sell them months later still new! I sure use mine alot!

Well, mine is a Welso. Not the top of the line for sure, but I absolutely love it!!! Im on it at least 5-6x a week and Im up to 40 mins now! This brand can be found at Wal-mart and they have the newer version of mine sitting in the stores now. It's not huge and it is the perfect size for my living / tv room without being an eyesore. Im not sure how much it is brand new, I got mine from a garage sale for $25!

I think this is the closest to what I have...only newer - http://www.walmart.com/ip/Weslo-Momentum-G3.8-Elliptical/10568385?findingMethod=rr

I used to use the one at my local community center, but now I have one at home. It's a Schwinn 420, compact compared to many, durable, not the top of the line and not the bottom of the heap either. It does the job famously. I bought it used for a $100--worth every penny.

I have my own. Its a higher end Horizon model. Paid $1600 for it on sale, regular price over $2000. You can get more inexpensive models, but I went with this one because it was such a smooth ride when I tried it in the store and had speakers and a fan built right in, along with a HRM and such. I actually plug in the portable DVD player since the console is a little too high for me to see the tv and it plays through the speakers. Another option may be to look for used equipment. Often people buy and find they do not use it so you can get a good deal on barely used equipment. Just make sure you go try it at thier place before buying it make sure it functions properly.

It just really depends on what you are looking for. I didn't want to spend more than $400 but ended up with that baby :)

I got a "barely used" NordicTrack on Craig's List and love it, (probably 70% off the cost of new). It is rather large though, make sure you have room or it will be in the way otherwise.

I've got my own and it works for me, because I can stick i in front of the TV with subtitles on with my headphones in and get lost in a programme for thirty mins. It cost me £40 off ebay and was worth it, I'm not comfortable enough yet to go to the gym, and I prefer it to running. Do 40 mins on it 3 times a week, and the pounds are flying off!!!

I'm a believer in "you get what you pay for"....at least that's been my experience. I have a Horizon & paid $700 at Sports Authority (online -had a 20% off coupon & free shipping). Have had it since last November & LOVE it! Doesn't take up all that much space either.

I have the Pro Form 1 Series 785 F, I personally like it. I figured it was worth the investment since I was paying over $20 a month for a gym membership I rarely used!! I got free financing for a year and paid it off within that time.
