I'm having trouble staying around my calorie goal while getting enough carbs AND enough protein! Any suggestions? I don't have a problem with rice, potatoes, or breads...but it seems like they always sky rocket my calorie count!

fruits with cottage cheese or cheese stick, veggies and cheese, nuts and cheese, yogurt with granola...these give you a balance of protein and carbs that balance you throughout the day. I usually go over on the proteins a bit, which I think is better than going over on carbs. I only plug in rice and potatoes if I need the extra calories from exercising.

    Carb options:
    FRUIT
    WHOLE GRAIN BREAD
    QUINOA
    COUS COUS
    BROWN RICE
    SWEET POTATO
    CARROTS

Basically, try to choose things that are high in things like fiber and lower in the sugars... try to stay away from products with an abundance of added sugar.

    Protein options:
    CHICKEN
    BEEF (93% lean or better)
    BUFFALO
    FISH
    TURKEY
JERKY (turkey, beef or buffalo jerky)
    EGGS
    BEANS
    LEGUMES
    SOY
    TOFU
    SEITAN

Of course, those are just skimming the bucket :)

white potatoes are also a great carb option - they get a bad rap but are extremely nutritious (filled with potassium which is so crucial for so many things!).
