I just did a check in tools and my estimated BMR is: 1,605 calories/day* I added to my profile to loose a pound a week and I am allowed 1510 - is that too many?

I obviously eat more with excercise.....will I lose?

What I did was set my goal to sedentary. Then if I exercise I have those extra calories.

We don't know how much you weigh or how much you want to lose, so we can't answer if 1510 is too many. I suggest you follow MFP's suggestions, however. If you haven't lost after 3-4 weeks, then re-evaluate and revise.

ok I weigh 192 pounds and would like weigh 132 I am 31 and female

I did add all that information to MFP and selected the weightloss I was after and thats what popped up

I was just shocked to see it so close to my BMR - will that be a hinderance or does it not matter

If that's the cals that came up on MFP's calulator, then you should lose if you are strict on your logging of food and excercise. The MFP program is pretty right on and the best advice I can offer is only eat about half your excercise calories back until you start to see how evrything is working and don't worry if you start a weight program and gain a bit. Inflammation from beginning weights will make you retain water for a a few days. I beleive MFP has a built in deficit, so double check your input figures and if it comes up the same then you should be okay. Good luck it's an awesome place to change your lifestyle. :-)

Your BMR is the amount of calories you'd need to survive if you didn't do anything at all every day - like you were in a coma. It's just the energy needed for your body to do things like breath, circulate blood, etc.

Your daily calorie allotment is based off of your calories burned from normal daily activity, which is usually quite a bit higher. You can find that number if you go to My Home, then Goals - it's the big number on the upper right.

The only caution I'll give is not to eat all the calories that MFP gives you for activity as they tend to overestimate. Either eat only about half of those earned activity calories or buy a heart rate monitor with chest strap (I like the Polar brand ones - a bit pricey but worth the investment) so you have a more accurate calorie count.

    Good luck!!

Thanks I will keep an eye on things and let you know how it goes

I will also only eat half the calories from excercise and see if that works - looking forward to shedding the pounds
