"Consuming artificial sweeteners can cause distortions in your biochemistry, and if you drink diet soda in an attempt to lose weight, they won't help you. Instead, most studies looking at this show very clearly that diet soft drinks actually double your obesity risk by stimulating your appetite, increasing carbohydrate cravings, and stimulating fat storage!"

You are absolutely right!!!! Checked into some of that myself a couple yrs ago and they can be bad for you on a number of levels. Splenda, Equal, etc. all of them.0

It amazes me that SO many people who want to be healthy are rejecting natural sugar and filling themselves with chemicals.0

Is it bad that I am completely aware of this but still use them anyway? ugh I just love sweet stuff so much but I don't want the calories! But they do make me craves other carbs soo much. Terrible.0

I had no idea. Thanks for posting. I crave carbs like I crave air...0

It doesn't change the fact that it's zero calories and sugar has the absolute same effect on you (triggering cravings, stimulating fat storage and appetite) except at the end of the day you have less to be able to consume. I drink diet soda almost every day and put splenda in my coffee everyday and I'm still losing weight at a good clip and in a way that makes me happy. To each their own I suppose. Cheers!0

If you read the article, it in fact ISN'T zero calories, it's 4 calories per packet -- they can get away with touting "zero calories" because of labeling laws. AND, it has sugar in it still (maltodextrin), so it's also not "sugar free" as they claim. The point of the article isn't so much the dangerous side effects of mass consumption of these artificial chemicals (though, these are important too). The main point is the deception these companies have no problem pulling over on the general public for profit. They're playing with people's lives and health and don't give a crap except where profit is concerned.
I have no problem with those who still choose to consume these artificial chemical products... what I do have a problem with is companies LYING to their consumers. Therefore, I feel it important to spread the word so others can make more informed decisions. To each his/her own, indeed. Enjoy your day.0
