Shoulder relaxing exercises?

I've been so tense lately and I tend to contract by shoulders when I'm stressed. About an hour ago the whole right side of my upper back (between the spine and my shoulder -- I know there's a name for this muscle, but I have no idea what it is in English:blushing: ) went rigid and I can't loosen it up. Anyway, does anyone know of some kind of exercise I can do to relieve the discomfort? I've tried moving my arm in different direction but nothing quite hits the spot. Thanks:smile:

Have you tried Jillian Michaels big hugs.

From having your arms held back in line with your shoulders, you swing them into hug yourself. Then swing them back out.

It is part of the warm up.

Sorry to hear that. The only thing that seems to help me when my shoulders tense up like that is a heat pack and some Advil.

Your trapezius muscle? From the base of your neck down your spine and over to your shoulderblade.

Try gently stretching your neck, ear to shoulder, chin to chest, turning your head to look over each shoulder, turn your head to look over your shoulder and then look straight down (like you're looking at your b00b) Hold each stretch for 15 seconds.

You can do the standard stretch where you bring your right arm out straight in front of you then cross your body with it and pull it in to your other shoulder with your left hand (keep arm straight the whole time)

Cat and camel stretches could help. On your hands and knees arch your back up like a cat and then relax down all the way.

Well, I took some aspirin and then tried the stretches you've mentioned... a very big help! I'm feeling much better. Thanks everyone:flowerforyou:
