Hi, So i got a HRM - Polar ft4 - and been logging my calories on here so i know they are accurate. however, what about the calories burned when i am not in the 'zone'? you know, the Heart rate zone? Do these still count?
Its just ive been on my wii fit and didnt get in this zone much of the time, even though i gave it my all at boxing and got sweaty.
Also, should i eat these back? today im going to have to, as ive run short on calories, but it seems to be a bit pointless working my *kitten* off working out then eating them again - does that not defeat the object??

As long as it was counting calories while you were working out, not standing still for 5 minutes setting up your wii, then the calories count.
Just because you turn off your HRM, doesn't mean that your muscles stop burning extra calories. If you would go under 1200 net calories, then you definitely need to eat them back.0 -
You should eat if you are hungry...and eating some of those exercise calories is fine. I enter all the cals burned (even those not "in the zone"). The zone is probably your cardiovascular zone. Don t' force yourself to eat all your cals back if you are not hungry.0

This is a topic that will get all kinds of answers. I'm with you - if I burn 1000 calories, I'm not going to purposely eat 2200-2500 calories for the day, just because that's what I burned. I usually try to stick in the 1200-1400 range if I don't exercise, and 1500-1800 if I do exercise, just depending on the intensity. But, that's just me. I think it takes some work for each person to see what calorie in/out equation works best for them.0

i agree with this. i personally dont feel the need to eat back the calories i burn but will sometimes go about 100 over on days i workout, if i feel hungry and i have had great results. this is a well known argument on here but the most important thing is to find what works for YOU and what will make you feel satisfied.0 -
Great job on the HRM - I also have the FT4 and love it
The goal is to lose in a healthy way (no more than 2lbs a week or 1,000 calories a day)...
Most people can lose a little more than that, but it really depends on what you eat and what you burn...
If you are at a 1,200 calorie a day diet, under good medical supervision, you can afford to not eat back all or any of your exercise calories - if you are burning 1,200 calories a day in exercise, however; your body will start to rebel if you don't eat back most of them you know?
it is ultimately what will work best for you... and what you can maintain long term - No matter how powerful the idea very fast weight loss is (GOD knows I wanted that!) but it was VERY difficult to maintain, I threw myself into starvation mode, I lost motivation, etc...
I'd KILL for 4+ pounds a week lol, but I KNOW it won't be healthy and what it will do to me lol...
Lastly - remember if you are exercising (especially with some resistance training) in there - you are building muscle, which WILL burn more calories every day (at rest) so you will find you DO lose more than the straight 2lbs a week
Hope it helps!!!0
