So I am a mother of 3 girls, I am trying to be good at this diet thing, it is not working for me, I try to make healthy food, and the kids won't eat it. I also have a bf who is skinny and does not have to worry about eating the wrong thing. Does any one out there have any advise to give on how to keep to my healthy foods and not to give in to the kids or bf when they are craving not so healthy foods?????????

Cooking for kids can be a challenge, no question there. Luckily mine are now old enough that they pretty much make what they want to eat for themselves and I have my own private stash of healthy foods that they normally won't touch lol

Try incorporating more activity into your daily routine, go for a walk, or a swim at the local gym if you don't have a pool. Any combination of fewer calories in or more calories out via exercise will work, a combination of the two works the best.

I don't have much of a suggestion except the possibility of what I do. I don't like healthy foods, typically it is a texture issue, so I end up foregoing amount as a trade off for taste (meaning that I eat less food, but I get to eat what I want). If you eat healthier, then you will end up getting more to eat, but my body is fine with the amount that I allow myself (didn't at first, took a week of feeling hungry all the time).

Only suggestion, other than that, would be to have a mixture of tasty/unhealthy items that the kids will primarily fill up on mixed w/ healthy items. Would be a way to get the family to start eating healthier options, but not deprive them of what tastes good...in trade, you get a little bit of the bad to help offset cravings, but you MUST not allow yourself to eat more than a 1/2 serving of the unhealthy.

There are tasty, healthy options (i.e. grilled chicken/pork/corn/etc), but it does get old eating it every day...and sometimes we just don't have enough time to cook it, nor do we have enough time or money to eat at a restaraunt that serves it.

What do they like to eat?
My son likes cheese, I make beans and put cheese on those and I can eat the beans cause thos are healthy. Fruit is also good. Especially the kind that keeps like oranges and apples. Slicing then up and making them look nice. Most kids like peanut butter you can pair that with apples very good for all of you. Smoothies are also great.

It is really hard but also not buying unhealthy stuff. When they get hungry enough they will eat what you are eating.
  • My kids are teenagers now so I no longer have to struggle with teaching them how to eat healthy. Honestly, this might sound mean but I just made my kids eat what I cooked when they were growing up. They grew up on baked or grilled chicken, fish, wheat tortillas, whole grain brown rice, wheat bread, fresh veggies and salad.

Yes, they have made comments about the fact that we eat a little different than most of their friends but they have also made
comments about how strong their immune system is and how they RARELY have gotten sick compared to their friends.

Don't get me wrong....we eat our junkfood too, but we limit it to the weekends. Friday night is still a healthy night. Saturday night is burgers, tacos, lasagna, or whatever we feel like. We even splurge on ice-cream and cookies on Saturday night too :) Sunday morning, we will usually eat a big unhealthy breakfast together and by Sunday night, we are eating healthy again :)

At our house, I just raised my kids that eating healthy isn't an option.

Your boyfriend and your kids shouldn't look at your new healthy menu as a diet. Everyone should be eating the same thing, for the most part. Your intake of carbs and calories should be less than theirs since you are trying to lose weight. For instance, my kids are all very athletic and require a higher carb intake. I will cook rice and pasta more often for the kids because they need it. I don't always put those things on my plate. If I know that 1/3 of the meal I am planning is carbs, then I will add an extra piece of chicken to the grill or an extra large side of veggies for myself.

I hope this all makes sense....wishing you the best of luck!
  • Totally agree! I've done the same for my family and exercise. They eat what I cooked and we had splurge days. For a while, my daughter and I did Insanity together. Family meals and exercisig together force those values and habits on family.
