Exercises to do with ankle injury?

My ankles swollen and painful, and I'm new to fitness. What sorts of exercise can I do with my ankle issue?

    The pool might be an option. I know I have a knee injury and being in the pool gives me a good work out but kinda relives the impact a little :) I mean if it's a serious injury maybe just do arm workoouts and give your ankle a rest :)

    Swimming, crunches, sit ups, push-ups (if it doesnt hurt your ankle), planks
