Hi! Just did the Couch to 5K day 1 yesterday and was wondering if anyone else wanted to try out the program with me You can read about it here: http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml
There's also a free app that will tell you when to walk and when to run for the program!! It's called "5K Runner" for iPhone (not sure if there is a Droid app too)
I'd love motivation and some company on my quest to run a 5K...who's in?

I downloaded C25K to my phone this weekend, but the smoke from the Wallow Fire is still too bad to spend much time outside. Other than treadmill, well, not much "walking" yet. Hopefully the smoke will move on soon, because I am ready. Just registered for my first 5K walk. It's this Sunday. Good luck in your journey0

Congrats on day 1! I am using a different app, the Ultimate 5K. Just finished day 6. I also have a 5k goal, at the end of October. Have you picked a run to aim for?
I'd be happy to be your company on the quest!

I'm going to start with it! I'm about to go away on a work trip though - so won't be starting for another fortnight... Still, count me in - will need all the motivation I can get0

Totally terrific program. I was definitely a couch potato before trying it. Although I can't run anymore. Had double hip replacement 4 yrs. ago and I dislocated my left hip in January just before my 1st 5K. Doctor told me I can't run because it will jar my hips. I now have no more soreness and envy those who are running. I do walk for an hour or more depending on the weather here. Smoke fires and humidity are making it hard to walk. So it is water aerobics and cardio and strength training dvds at home.
Good luck on the C25K you will enjoy it and be amazed at what you can do. Make sure you stretch real well before and after. The shin splits hurt!0 -
I just finished c25k - totally love it, but it took me three weeks longer to do it when expected. Now I am doing bridge to 10K. I use runkeeper.com on my android, it is also available for I phone. Just do it!0

My Mom just had a double hip replacement about 6 weeks ago. She's using the elliptical and the pool to stay in shape. She lost about 50lbs before the surgery and it was amazing how fast she recovered!0

I'm in and would love some support!
I am starting week 2 today (assuming it doesn't rain). I'm doing it with my two sons who are 14 and 11. The poor dog has to stay home as she's too old to handle anything more than a walk (10 year old black lab with bad hips). Although my kids are handling it much better than I am, so maybe I should stay home with the dog!
I do have a question though. The version I'm using says to run 3 days a week, but I've seen people on MFP who are running almost daily. Do the different apps approach the program differently?0 -
I haven't picked a run to do yet but if I sign up then I have to do it right! That could be a lot of good motivation0

I'm on week 2 day 2 I did week one 4 times though because I liked the intervals! I use the feltip version of the App for iPhone, it's fantastic that I can listen to my iPod playlists, Pandora and even browse the Internet and still hear the voice or sound cues Add me if you're early in as well!0

I always think that a rest day or a cross-training day is waaaaaay better for you than running everyday. It gives your muscles time to recover and keeps your health well-rounded!
Yay I'm glad so many people are on-board!0 -
I'd love to join! I am on w3d1. I am hoping to run my first 5k on August 7. I don't have the apps I just use a stop watch and time myself, I know so old school =P, but I would love to have some extra support.0

I'm on my 9th week of C25K. I graduate on Friday0

Just finished day 1 of week 2. Did anyone else find it difficult to increase to the 90 second runs? I survived, though did slow down the jog speed in order to make it. Did the ending 5 minute walk, then even managed a little more jogging. A very little more. My youngest will be starting soccer in another month so we started C25K to get him ready for it. We live in a rural area and have electric poles every (I'm guessing) 100 feet, so I had my son sprint a pole then walk 2 poles, and I managed a very slow jog when he sprinted. He handled it better than I did! Our route is a little over 2.5 miles, and we managed it today in 45 minutes which is 10 minutes faster than we had managed week 1. Not sure if this is because we walked faster, or due to the extended jogs, but I'm happy we're getting faster.
Now still need to take the dog out for her walk but am going to wait until evening for that! It's getting hot already...0 -
I am on week 5 day 3...and needing some motivation too! I use a podcast I downloaded from itunes for free. I like the music she uses. I am a little worried about todays run because they progress the time from 8 minute runs to 20??? I am just going to do the best I can and if I have to stop.... I will just try it again before moving on! Good luck... I have really enjoyed it so far.0

I LOVE the C25K program, it has really made me become a runner from nothing. I started the program on the treadmill and got to week 4 before I decided I hated running inside on a treadmill. So I restarted the program after our May long weekend here and am currently on Week 3 Day 3. I ran my first 5K this past Saturday and shocked the hell out of myslef as I managed to run about 3/4 of the race and week 3 is what 3min runs? So very proud of myself and an now totally hooked
Feel free to add me if anyone is looking for encouragment or tips, I could also use any encouragement and tips that anyone has to offer.0 -
I will be starting this on Monday. I have never run before so I hope that I am able to do it!0

I didn't think about a podcast! Good idea0 -
I'm planning to start next week Monday and could definitely use the support as well.0

started over after taking a couple weeks off I did W1D1 twice last Thursday, need to head to treadmill to do it again tonight. Would love to have a group for motivation. Feel free to add me.0

I just couldn't stand it that I was giving more excusess for not following thru with my goal so I went down and battled the treadmill 2mi C25K workout W1D2 complete 34mins warmup and cool down at 3.4mph walking/jog intervals were 3/5mph respectively. Finished time 1.75mi so walked an extra lap at 3mph to give me a round #.0

I want in! I just signed up for my first 5k/10k on 9/9. My goal is to RUN the 5K. Anyone that knows me, knows I am NOT a runner, although I swear I've always dreamed that I was a runner..like literally. LOL.
Anyway, I started this 2.5 weeks ago. DIED through Day 1 and then was really super excited for Day 2...and then I fell down at work. In a dress..and heels..in front of people. Awesome. Anyway, my bff is a runner and he just ran his first marathon. He's going to come to where I live in October to run a half and is trying to convince me to do it. HA. I said let me get through 5K w/out dying first...so I'll be re-starting this tomorrow morning (it's about 98 degrees here right now, I need to do this at 5am if I'm going to make it in this heat!).
My friend and I will also be starting a bootcamp so between bootcamp and C25K I'm trying to see if I can lose 25lbs by my birthday in mid-August. I drop a lot of weight when I cut sugar out of my diet..now the fun part to actually cut it out! So let's go! I'm in...can't wait to hear how everyone is doing!!0 -
Oh and I have the C25K app on my itouch. Love that I can listen to my own music while I do it! I think it was either free or .99.0
-
ARGH...total failure yesterday. I had grand hopes of doing my day two but then we had to go pick up a piece of furniture, make dinner, I got home late and had to eat...ah well. Tonight! I won't let a day off stand between me and a 5K!0

I must admit, I'm not in the mood for this today. It's very windy and threatening rain. But kept thinking of having to tell all you that I wimped out so am determined to do it today. I just ran out to see how bad it is, and it's starting to sprinkle. So I'm delayed, but am determined! I'll report back when I'm done with day 2/week 2!0

I just started with the C25K app on my iPhone, and I love it! Yesterday I did week 3, day 2, and then lifted weights, so I'm taking a break today to give myself a chance to recover. I'm excited to do run again tomorrow, and that's something I NEVER thought I'd say!
I think most of the C25K programs were designed to be done 3x a week, and most of the people who run more than that are probably past the program. If not, they may be starting off "strong" and running the week 1 every day, but may risk burn-out or an injury.0 -
I did it! I didn't want to get out of bed, but I finally did. Took my dog w/me and she kept looking back and giving me dirty looks whenever I slowed down. I have to say, the C25K program on the blackberry SUCKS. She would tell me to jog and it wouldn't even be 20 seconds and she'd tell me to walk! Anyway, I started counting myself because I almost used it as an excuse to not do anything and go back home. So there I was...counting like a dork. Oh well, it worked out good. I felt good. Anyway, Day 1 DONE.
And to those dealing with rain...oh my goodness, I had to run EARLY today and my house was already warm when I got home. Yikes! Good luck!0 -
But kept thinking of having to tell all you that I wimped out so am determined to do it today.
It's not fun to have to admit it I'm heading out today for sure!0 -
Today was rough. High wind today and a cold drizzle so I put it off this morning. Tried it around noon but still drizzling. With all the delays, I really didn't want to do it at all. Plus my boys were complaining and didn't want to go, but WE DID IT! It finally warmed up a little and the rain quit so we got it done. The first half was very rough as we were going into the wind, and I was really struggling. But heading home (with the wind helping finally!) we did much better and were faster.
I know that if I wasn't on this thread and the June Move-It 360 Challenge thread, I would have bagged it completely. So thanks!0 -
Just completed W2D1 today at the gym on the treadmill...It was a little rough. I am hoping it gets better SOON!0
-
BlueMoon, I had a rough day with the 1st day of week 2 too, and just finished day 2 of it today. I was surprised at how hard I found the breathing, just increasing 30 seconds. Not really how today went due to a strong wind, but coming back home seemed much easier than heading out. Not sure if it was because the wind was pushing me home, or if the run was actually easier...or maybe just easier than heading into the wind. Guess I'll find out Saturday with day 3.
I'm nervous about this thing though, but I'm trusting in the process that has worked for so many other people. Plus I'm running with my two boys (11 and 14) and I can't give up!
Hang in there - we'll make it!0
