High protein/low carb/fibre count

I know this has been done to death, and I'm not asking for advice on what I should/shouldn't do (I'm doing high protein though as I have a tendency to binge with carbs and I feel much more in control of myself at the moment). Anyway, as I begin to introduce more carbs (this'll be veg, fruit, etc., not pasta/rice) I plan to monitor the amount of carb I consume(grams). At the moment (so long as I don't have chewing gum!) I'm averaging around 50g carbs daily, but this will obviously increase.
My question is, I'm sure I read that you deduct fibre from the carb count to get the 'true' carb value, is that right? if so/not, could someone please explain it to my dumb brain?
Without protein-bashing (I've read loads of posts and it does seem to come down to preference, and this is mine...for now!), does anyone have any other top tips?
Thanks muchly

Fiber is not digested so you don't count it. High protein diets rock!0 -
Thanks for getting back to me - so do I deduct the fibre count from the carb count to give me an actual carb intake? So at the end of today if I've 54 carbs and 17 fibre, I've actually consumed 37g carbs today? Apologies for needing it dumbed-down!
Any other gems of information to impart?0 -

Yes, fiber will not give the body energy, so 37carbs. From the research I have done, you can go higher than 50gms of carbs a day and still get great results. I would shoot for 100-120gms of carbs and consume the majority in the evening.0 -
That's perfect as I love my fruit to munch on in the evening - why the evening though? Thanks!0

I could've written this post myself as I am at the same point0

Studies have shown insulin being less sensitive at this time, meaning less will be stored as fat if eaten in the evening.0 -
That's interesting, I wonder why (I'm not asking you though this time - I probably wouldn't get my head around the answer!). Thanks for replying though! Really appreciate your help!0

God there is so much conflicting advice on MFP - I have always been told if your gonna eat carbs eat then during the day to give ur body time to digest them? I know nothing - Im just simply repeating what I have read xxx0

Your body is going to digest carbs regardless of when you eat them. If carbs went straight to fat then that theory would be valid but that is not how the body works. As long as your glycogen stores are not full, your carbs will not be stored as bodyfat.0 -

Natural biorythms I suppose......not a lot of research out there on the topic. There was also a study done on calories in general. Those that ate the majority of there calories in the evening lost more fat than those that spread out their calories over the entire day.0 -
That's odd as it does seem to fly in the face of 'eat several small meals in favour of three larger ones'. It's like Pink Princess said - there's so much info out there, and it's so easy just to choose what suits you to serve your own purposes. Which arguably I'm doing too, but it reiterates I suppose that we all must just do what is good for each and every one of us, which won't necessarily suit others.0
