Hey MFP peeps,

Okay so I have been writing recently about wanting to change my plan and kick start my weight loss! I need to loose 50 lbs, and would like to have 30 of those pounds GONE by the end of the year.

Now, I am thinking of changing my daily calorie goal to 1400 instead of 1200. I go over 1200 everyday anyway and usually average 1800 cals at the least! If I stick to 1400, I will supposedly loose 1 pound a week. I can still lose 15 pounds by my birthday in October. Thoughts?

Hey Diana! :-) When you go up to 1800 is this with exercise? I think 1200 without exercise calories to eat, is not enough on it's own. 1400 is much more do-able. This would be easier to answer if I knew your exercise routine, but 1400 would be a good start! Set yourself up for success. If 1200 is too darn low and you "fail" at it every day, it won't motivate. :-)

I think 1200 is too low- especially if your working out at all. You will still lose weight at 1400, and you will be more likely to keep your calories under and not binge out of remorse later.... Just a thought. I personally couldnt function on 1200 calories and I weigh 135 at 5'7.

I honestly think the key for you is exercise- I started losing the fastest when I started getting a good work out in at least a few days a week.

PS My birthday is in October too :o)

When I go up to 1800, sometimes it's with exercise but other times, it's not. Sometimes I go up to 2000 or 2200 on weekends!

You're all right. I am going to change it to 1400 AND try to exercise. When I had a personal trainer, they had me eating 1600 and 1700 calories a day at first. I am going to just try not to binge and really push myself to work out!

I am 5'8" and 205. I want to be between 150-160!!! Especially by next year.

    Thanks for the advice :-)
