Life sux... thru a straw.

Ok, does anyone else have this issue... I have been doing really good with my water intake, as long as I use my insulated glass with a straw. I don't know why, but I drink my alotment better when I'm slurping it thru a straw. Now enters the problem... Ab pain that feels like bloating or gas! At first I thought it was something I ate, but it's been over a week & I'm not better. Severe cramps that feel like gas. I blamed it on the rash of bad carbs I have been eating (kinda fell off the wagon, but still doing the water!) I'm wondering if it's all the air I'm sucking thru the straw? I've poked around on'line, but have not seen anything to support my theory, but I'm giving up my straws for awhile to see if I return to normal.
When I mentioned this to a friend, she said that she's noticed that since she's been using her HUGE water jug, with a straw, that she's been more "burpy" lately! So... anybody else?

You are probably swallowing more air (gas) when you drink with a straw, hence the gassy, bloated feeling. Just a thought...0

"You may swallow excess air if you eat or drink too fast, talk while you eat, chew gum or suck on hard candies, drink carbonated beverages, or drink through a straw."

Not something I've heard of, but I'm curious to know the answer now!
The reason you drink more with your straw though is you tend to take smaller sips rather than gulps and you do it more frequently because it gives your hands and lips something interesting to do. I noticed I did this if i went out socially (I'm so not a party girl) when i drank through a straw I was doing it twice as much as I would from a glass or bottle because it distracted me.0 -

I agree. I find myself reaching for my water bottle with built in straw whenever there's a lull in the conversation, or sometimes, maybe watching tv I just hold it in my hand and slowly drink from it. But I haven't had any problems like your describing and I drink 72 ounces plus a day all out of my water bottle with a built in straw. Hope you figure it out.0 -
yeah I saw something the other day about smoothies and through a straw. It gives you really bad gas and cause abdominal cramps. Stop and see what difference it makes, but I reckon it's that!0

I think maybe you are just drinking it to fast and getting a lot of air? I am drinking my water 99% through a straw.. At first, when I first started drinking my water I went from drinking 0 a day to 6-8 and sometimes even more.. I was VERY bloated and belly felt super full and even got the cramps in my side a bit.. but now.. 2 weeks later, It's almost gone!! :P I am actually liking the taste of water, and WANT to drink it!! (NEVER IN MY LIFE DID I THINK THAT WOULD HAPPEN) I even bought little flavor packets to spice a cup or 2 up during the day to kick off the soda cravings :P0

peppermint to soothe the belly - hang in there.... that is the worst feeling.
I get the bloating/gas from too much iron, milk/wheat products and inability to digest certain things.0
