I have a problem eating enough. I know most people are in a different boat. I eats lots of lean protein and fresh veges with 5 to 6 meals per day but I'm usually 200-400 calories under my allotment before exercise. My problem is that I don't feel hungry. I know I need to have more to keep the metabolism up and not be in starvation mode but it's hard to do when you don't feel the urge. Does anyone else have this problem or any good suggestions?

Can't see your diary but if you are losing you should be okay. Try not to go under 1200 per day.

    Take Care!

I posted a very similar status on my page just a while ago. I have this problem and what I try to do is mix it up a bit. Some days I eat under and some days I try to eat up to my exercise cals. Some days I'm hungry and others I'm not, so I go with the flow..

I try not to stay under for more than 4 days.. I have been under for the past couple days and today I think I'm gonna hit the exercise mark or a bit above, since I am quite a bit hungry today despite having a couple healthy snacks in between.

Don't let the "starvation mode" thingy scare you too much. It takes weeks for your body to do that. I would try to eat at least 1200 a day just to maintain for health reasons. I always say if your hungry, don't eat, but if you are always under that min. (and not hungry) I would trade a fruit or veggie for something high in calories just to give you that extra burst!

If I've got a largish deficit but not really hungry I will opt for the calorie dense but good choices... nuts and nut butters etc (on celery instead of optiing for bread in all its various forms as I used to) etc. I choose full-fat and to me full-flavour options, I'm always going to pick whole milk over skim, regular miracle whip over any of the reduced fat options, butter over margarine etc.

Make sure you're eating over 1200 calories and you should be fine as long as you're not hungry. If you find yourself really hungry even after eating 1200 calories then you should eat a little more.

I have the same problem. It's good to know I'm not alone there. I usually end up eating only about 750 - 800 calories a day, because my hunger doesn't set in until around dinnertime. The best way I've found to give it a boost is to exercise, either walking about 30 minutes to an hour, or doing some other form of cardio that uses a lot of energy. Once your body has used an amount of energy, it needs more, and will tell you so.

    Hope this helps.

as long as you're hitting at least 1200 calories a day and losing weight you're fine, but do hit that 1200. If you're not getting there, don't be afraid of scarfing down a couple of nuts that are high calorie in good fats.

First of all, lets be honest... before you started your weight loss journey you were eating TONS of calories right? I know I was, which is what got me where it got me...

Second of all, your metabolism, your mind, your body is all screwed up, you went from eating an excess of calories, to a deficit of calories.

Soooo for the first little while when you start your healthy life style, you need to IGNORE your hunger signals, until your body gets used to what is right. You NEED to eat what MFP is telling you. pretty soon your body will get used to that amount of food and then it will start requsting that much food. You started depriving it of food, so your body adapted and well, now it only wants what it wants.

Easy ways to get those calories in are some of the following:
Whole eggs, NOT just egg whites
    Peanutbutter
    2% milk
    Avacados
    NUTS
    Nut butters
Whole wheat breads and noodles (yes indulge have spaghetti and not feel guilty)
Cook with olive oil and butter (in moderation of course)
    Higher calorie cereals
    protein powders
Have a dessert once and a while... I REPEAT.... ONCE AND A WHILE.

Etc... It isn't impossible to eat your calories or else we wouldn't be in our current positions and there wouldn't be a need for mfp... so you just have to find ways to do it.

My goodness you've lost loads!!!!! WELL DONE you, by the sounds of it you have shrunk your stomach so much that after little and often your full. I know what you mean about if you just dont feel like eating you cant, ive tried forcing myself but it just feels so wrong in my mouth. I used to eat all the wrong things tho but have found this site excellent for just keeping on track with the correct foods and stop me eating or drinking the wrong things. I wish i could suggest some help, all i can say is stick with this site and maybe check out the reciepes to make sure which foods you could eat with more carbs & fats - sounds bizzare i know
  • Ok you look like youre doing fine. MFP may be quoting something thats too high for you. Maybe try something like the BodyMedia FIT which will tell you your baseline burn/exercise burn. You wear it 24/7 unlike a HRM.

People got by without technology because they were able to 'tell' what they needed, roughly.. Im sure your body is 'telling you' just fine...

I have had this problem most of my life. I even saw a nutritionist about it. I stopped seeing the nutritionist when he's only answer was I will always be heavier since I was in my late teens. I couldn't beleive that was said. Most of the weight that I lost so far is from having my daughter last March. I would like to lose another 20 lbs. to get to the 150-155 range. I'm 5'7" so that's a healthy range for me.

First of all Congrats on losing and getting to where you are now!

I'm in a similar situation, since losing my weight I have developed this love of exercising, particularly cardio stuff so my recommended calorie intake has gone up, but my appetite has not grown with it, and I often find at the end of the day I'm down by 200 calories or sometimes more...... I've plateaued recently and been at the same weight for about a month now, and couldn't understand why, as I was burning more calories than I was consuming which in my head meant I should be losing weight... not so, apparantly my body went in to "starvation mode".... At the end of the days when I realised my calories were under what they should be, I would try and build it up, but don't feel that I was filling up on the right things, so if you find any ideas on good snacks that will build up my calories, I'm curious to know how you are getting along....I've read about snacking on nuts but I have some odd nut allergies and tend to stay away from them.
