Ugghh... I wish I knew... My doctors scale shows me a full five lbs heavier than my scale at home. I would think as long as your consistent on your scale at home, that you can use that weight to chart your progress.

Is your doctor's scale balanced? Also, when you weighed at home vs. weighing at the doctors, what were the factors that changed?

    For example--

-- difference in clothing worn? You should always weight {bare} at home, after morning {bathroom routines} and before showering. I daresay you weren't starkers at the doc's, right?

--did you eat or drink anything between your home and the doc's? If so, that's going to impact your weight

Also, factor in just the "normal" weight fluctuations us women are "blessed" with and you could see a big difference in weight.

What I do when I go to the doc's is I always try to schedule it as early in the morning as possible. Then, I eat a very light breakfast, drink a little bit, put on my lightest clothes I've got, shoes easy to slip on and off, and make sure I use the restroom prior to stopping on the doc's scale. I also empty EVERYTHING out of pockets, take off shoes, socks, etc.

Then, as soon as I get out of the doc's, I go straight home and weight, not drinking or eating anything and wearing the same clothes as at the doc's. That way, I've got the closest possible scenario to check my home scale against the doc's.

my doc scales is the same way. when i got down to 200 from 2 diff scales, i had a doc apt. i took off my shows, weighed and i was 214?? but when i went to the store i did a pay to weight thing and i was 198. so yes, i believe the scales at the docs are way off, and most of the time they are sitting on carpet.

i guess i'll keep my docs scale. it's maybe 2#s difference with mine. the most it has been is 5#s. i have an older model weight watchers scale from walmart. nothing fancy.

I've found that household scales don't seem to last too long - when new they match the doctors but after a couple years they don't.

You might try a new scale at home to see if it matches. I figure when at my appt if it shows a loss there too, it doesn't matter if the #s aren't the same.

Ask the dr when the last time his scale was calibrated...I am in the biz and can tell you it is not their upmost priority.

Use ONE scale and ONE scale only. If you lose 10 pounds on that scale you have LOST 10 pounds....doesnt matter what your actual weight is, right??

I got on the Publix scale early on. I had lost 5 pounds and was sooooooo stoked! The scale has a face that is 5 ft around. Everyone in all of Ft lauderdale could see it.....and hear me when I screeched.........It said I was 15 pounds HEAVIER than when i started. I cried all the way home.

My DH said, Do your pants fit? No. Are you in a smaller size? YES....than shut up and dont get on another scale. LOL

When I went to my Dr, i used a trick I learned here- I stood away from the numbers and told the nurse if it didnt say 148...........dont tell me. She laughed but said I wasnt the 1st to face away from the scale, but it was usually someone who GAINED not lost 20 pounds! The whole office celebrated with me.
