That's a question sure to get as many answers as their are people on this board! I eat breakfast on weekdays when I get to work, which is 2 hours after I get up, and then I spread my calories out all day. I eat 2,000 a day, so my rule is about 450 per meal, and a few snacks of 150 each. I eat my last calories - a bowl of Raisin Bran with skim milk - at 7:00pm, so I don't hit a bag of chips while watching TV. This works for me, but we're all different!0

Agreed...we're all different so you need to find what works for you. I eat 5 meals a day by taking my total calories and dividing by 5...avg 3-400 per meal depending on your intake and exercise.
sometime bkfst, lunch and dinner are a bit heavier than my snaks, but my snacks account for almost half of my daily intake.
You want to keep your body from feeling hungry, and by eating every fewq hours you can avoid insulin spikes.
that works for me....0 -
I eat about every 2 hours, and try to evenly spread my calories through the day. I don't worry about what time I eat at night, as long as I don't eat within 1 hour of going to sleep, and haven't gone over my calories. Try to listen to your body and be consistent. It will tell you what it wants.0

On the program I use we are told to eat within 30 minutes of waking up to kick start your metabolism as soon as possible. We are told to eat either a 100-200 calorie snack (300 for men) or your meal every 2-3 hours, with the calories per meal between 300-500, for women (I am often under that amount). Also according to my program we can eat up to 1 hour before bed time. I have been on this program for 5 months, I am hardly ever hungry and I have lost 53 pounds so far.

I shrink my meals throughout the day.
Wake up @4:15AM Scoop of Whey protein (110 calories)
Workout @ 4:45AM (Post workout shake 220 calories)
Breakfast @ 6:30 AM (roughly 450 calories)
Morning Snack @ 9:15 AM (375 calories)
Lunch @ 12:00 PM (350 calories)
Afternoon Snack @ 2:30 PM (325 calories)
Supper 5:30 PM (300 calories)0 -
I also eat my breakfast at the office, about 1 1/2 hour after I get up. I try to eat a breakfast around 500 calories, then my lunch is pretty large - usually around 650-800 calories, and on the way to spin class after work I eat a Luna Bar which is around 180 calories depending on the bar.
Because of the amount of calories I burn in spin class I need a large lunch because after class, it's about 8:00pm when I get home and I am in no mood to eat, so I keep that "meal" very light - usually around 300 calories and pretty high in protein and calcium.
Weekends are a different story. I sleep in on Saturday and then hit the Y for the morning spin class; munch on a banana on my way there. Lunch is pretty light calorie wise - usually around 400 calories, then I have plenty of calories for our Saturday night!
Sunday, I keep them pretty balanced out.0 -
I just eat when I'm hungry. I don't eat when I'm not... I don't look at a clock, in the end it's calories in vs. calories out right?0

Thanks everyone for your answers! I have been keeping a food log for a week now and can see I have made some improvement in some areas and still have to work on others but it works for me!0
