Hi, I'm not diabetic, but my hubby is type 1.
Just wanted to wish you luck... i understand how much harder it can be when your a diabetic!
My hubby just had his first appt on monday for getting an insulin pump. Do you like yours?
Good luck, and hope your health improves and you meet your goals!0 -

I'm a T1 too! I've only had my pump for a year (I'm 25....) because I wasn't correctly diagnosed, like EVER. In just over 2 months on MFP, I've only dropped about 8 pounds, but I have been able to lower all of my basal rates by a little bit. I like how my pump lasts longer! Feel free to add me as a friend, and we can help each other with insulin adjustments and stuff like that!0

Hi, one of my other MFP friends commented on how I always seem to find the T-1's and here I go again LOL! I'm type one (since 2005) not on the pump, but have seen amazing results just from being on MFP. I have gone from using 50 units of Lantus a day and 60-80 units of Humalog daily to now using 20 units of Lantus daily and 20-25 of Humalog! How's that for results?! Welcome and good luck on your journey feel free to add me if you'd like0

pumps are supposed to be great. i had the omnipod for a few months, decided i needed a change from shots after 16 years of using them (I've had T1 diabetes since I was 3 yrs old.) i was super excited thinking it would make my life so much easier but all it did was malfunction every. single. time. and give me huge bruises and rashes b/c my skin was allergic to the adhesive =( needless to say i let that go. i heard the ones with the wire are better, but i hate the idea of being attached to something.
good luck with your weight loss journey! believe me, life's been a lot smoother sincei started this journey. my a1c went down like crazy and i feel so much better, and it's tough but SOOOO worth it!0 -
Another Type 1 (6 years) not using a pump although I have been offered it many times!
Only recently changed over to a basal bosul regime (Lantus 44 Novorapid 10/12/14 - pre-calorie counting up to 80-100units Novorapid somedays to keep up with the binge eating and 50 Lantus), previously used premixed (Novomix30 46/38).0 -
Hey, type 1 here. I've been on the pump for 18 years. I just went into maintenance mode after losing 71 lbs. You can do this!!! I was nervous at first, but another type 1 friend of mine encouraged me to become more active and it has paid off.
My diabetes nurse told me to make sure that I was a little high (for me it's 200) going into exercise and put my pump on a temp basal during that time. Seems to work for me - I started by doing 1000 calorie workouts. Now that I'm in better shape, I burn about 600 calories now but work harder.
Wishing you the best of luck!!!0 -

Hi we looked into the omnipod for my husband, but it's not availible for purchse in australia as yet ( maybe online) My hubby's endocronoligist said it was getting some bad reports... maybe you should look into getting a refund and getting a different brand?
good luck0 -

I have heard those issues on the Omni pumps. I have the minimed (medtronic) pump and I got to say.....I am not attached to it....it is attached to me and that is the attitude I take with it....but to each his own.0 -

^^^ that would be ME! I am T1, 23 years and counting, pumped up for 3. Add me if you'd like0 -
I'm T1 as well--diagnosed about 10 years ago and been on the pump for a year and a half. I fought it for YEARS and am so glad I made the choice to switch. I do NOT miss giving myself shots in the least--especially having to do it in public. I use the Medtronic Minimed.
I am only about 3 months into MFP and just recently added kickboxing to my exercise routing. I was afraid of what would happen to my sugars but it has worked out so far. I start out around 140, drink 1/2 a proten shake 1/2 hour before class which I bolus for. Then I disconnect (which BTW is a great mini vacation for me!). When I get home from class which is about an hour, my BG usually has dropped about 50 or 60 points. I'm sure there will still be more experimenting/tweaking, but I'm glad my first 2 experiences weren't bad or it might make me shy away from high-cardio exercise.
Add me if yiou wish!0 -
I use the Medtronic Paradigm Pump... and wait for it... it's PINK! I absolutely LOVE my pump! It took me about a week to get the insertions right, taking it off and putting it back on after showers, and about another week to get used to it being attached to me, but I would NEVER go back to my 5+ needles a day. My sugars are almost ALWAYS under 10 mmol/L (not sure what that is in the American formula) and I have honestly never felt better!
The other pump that is available in Canada is the Animas pump. I tried it when I tried the Paradigm, and I personally didn't like it... but there's a lot of people who do. The Animas pump actually has a food database built into it (or one you build for yourself, I don't remember exactly) that helps with carbohydrate counting. I think it's also water proof / water resistant, whereas the Paradigm is not.
If trials are available from a nursing / healthcare team, or even from the company itself, I would definitely try multiple pumps. (They put in a saline solution when you test-drive the pump, not insulin). Then, just decide what features work for you, and enjoy better results!!0 -
i'm here! it'll be 10 years in November since i was diagnosed. i'm also on the minimed pump & it is sooo much harder to lose weight as a type 1 than a healthy person.0
